They use Bluetooth and Zigbee. If you use the Hub, it controls the device via Zigbee. You can control ~50 devices with a single hub. You can use your phone to control the lights without a hub. In that case, the phone Bluetooth is used to control the light. I believe you can control 10 lights with Bluetooth but I am not certain. **Q: Can i use this with a wall switch?** A: I don't see why not. It should default to whatever the color was before you turned it off. But if you have an Alexa with a built in hub...you can just turn it on/off with your voice. **Q: Can someone confirm the dimensions for this lamp? the old version of the lamp listed the dimensions as 3.7"d x 4.3"w x 58.6"h, is this one smaller?** A: 2 choices.. We have two of these lamps setup in opposite corners of the room and programmed it to turn on with the sunrise, and automatically dim and turn off around 11pm each night. It's nice not having to worry about ambient lighting in our main living room. The unit is very easy to install and very easy to program. There are 20+ color schemes/scenes that are pre-programmed into the software and they all look pretty good.
