Straight across the middle from edge to edge. Hope this helps. **Q: I'm trying to replace a fairly substantial snap on my barbour coat, are these hard-wearing enough for that?** A: I would think the larger might be alright. I have only used the smaller ones as fastening on my granddaughters activity bag. Might be advisable to look for a stronger fastener, Barbour coats are usually heavy in fabric I believe..
