So you should also buy something to anchor them down with. That sounds like it would be easy to figure out but that U-shaped metal that you are thinking about is trickier to find, than you think. So what you are going to look up are "wind stakes" that have a 2" width between each part of the U. I ended up green rebar trampoline wind stakes. In some regions that may seem like overkill but in a place like coastal Connecticut, where we are hit by tropical storm and hurricane winds, it is probably worth getting heavy duty anchors for such a light weight, above ground drainage unit. I use 2 stakes per unit. As far as how they work.. they work fantastic! I hadn't been watching the news so I didn't realize that the day after I set these up that we were going to be hit by a storm with high winds and dropped 5" of rain over just 18 hours. There would always be some flooding in my cellar from a storm like this but this is the first time that there has been no water coming in. None! All that I can think is that it is far more efficient than traditional metal gutter extensions and that maybe there was a significant amount of water leaking through by the elbow connectors. I am actually moving but these above ground units were a cheap way for me to test basin drainage, which I will definitely be putting in at my new house.
