Gelo

I, like so many others, am concerned about using plastic containers for food storage/heating. I saw these nice glass Bormioli Rocco Gelo bowls and thought they were just what I was looking for, so I ordered three sets. The Amazon.com description says the bowls can go in the microwave to warm up leftovers quickly (with the lids removed). Just what I needed! Except, when the bowls arrived, the literature from the manufacturer says, "Gelo containers are NOT suitable for use in microwave ovens...." Not what I needed! I emailed the manufacturer and received a reply in less than two hours! Wow! I asked if the Gelo bowls could be used in the microwave and if they could go directly from freezer to microwave or fridge to microwave. Their reply stated that "...the Gelo are microwave safe also if you put it from the fridge to the microwave. Remember to take off the lid before putting it into the microwave, and don't put the Gelo into the oven." So, at least I can pack a lunch of leftovers, take it to the office, put it in the fridge, and then microwave. The manufacturer's literature also states that they can be used to store food in the fridge and the freezer, but per the manufacturer's email, they cannot go directly from freezer to microwave. So, I guess if I freeze lunches for the week, I'll just take one out a day early and put it in the fridge to defrost before taking it to work. The lids fit very securely, maybe TOO securely. I envision trying to open one and the contents spewing out because I have to pull so hard on the lid to get it off! I hope not, and I'll report back on this. I'll test them to see if they leak, too. The interior dimensions are 6-1/2" x 2-1/2" deep, 5-1/2" x 2" deep, and 4-1/4" x 1" deep. Remember, they can't be used in the oven like Pyrex-type glass can. But, since I really wanted them to freeze pre-made lunches for the week to microwave and eat, the oven aspect doesn't bother me. Five stars for the bowls themselves, for Amazon's quick shipping, and for the manufacturer's amazing responsiveness. Just don't order them expecting to use them in the oven or directly from freezer to microwave.

These containers have been great! I bought them about 6 months ago, and have enjoyed them, since they arrived. They are the perfect size for a variety of things, from food leftovers, to just storing extra veggies I didn't use, such as onions, celery, etc.I will admit, I have avoided microwaving them, due to past reviews stating that they did not hold up - however, it is no sweat off my back, not really a huge deal to transfer to a different dish to microwave.The lids are air-tight, and I have had no problems with the lids cracking due to temperature changes (from putting hot foods into them, and putting them into the fridge). I also have become very cautious, as I have had some issues in the past with cheaper storage containers - make sure that you don't put food straight from the stove, to the container, to the fridge; just to be safe, and to avoid cracked lids. I haven't had any problems with these, but again, I am overly cautious.All in all, I am very happy with this inexpensive purchase, as they have served me quite well.

Like many other households, I have a cabinet filled with various food storage items, both plastic and glass and everything in between. This is the set that I gravitate to the most every time I need to store leftovers. I loved them so much I bought a second set. I also have this set in blue. Three perfect sizes for all my needs.The only downside is these are not meant to be flipped upside down, as I don't believe they would hold up well. But for every day dinner leftovers, even soups and stews, these are so great. I also use the large one to marinate meats sometimes. They are so safe and easy to clean because they are glass, and I pop them straight in the dish washer. I've ditched all my non-glass tupperware because they've all gotten gross over the years, either starting to stain or warp. Glass will never stain or warp and they haven't for the years I've used these. The lids have not warped either, but I make sure never to microwave with the lid on.

I hadn't used them much in microwave oven since it was bough 6 months ago. Maybe 2nd or 3rd time I had in Microwave and it split in half this morning trying to warm up it's content for 45 seconds. It split after about 30 seconds. The 2nd one of the 3 pack did the same, split in half after microwaving for a minute.

Very disappointed ...put one of these bowls in the microwave, directly from the refrigerator, and it shattered. I did not have a lid on it (had paper towel covering food).The product description even states, “...the bowls can also go in the microwave to warm up leftovers quickly”.Expected more from this brand.Good for storage, but I also hoped I’d not fear a glass container breaking in microwave.

I am so surprised to see the negative reviews for these storage containers here...I've had them for about 2 years now and love them! I originally bought several sets on a different website a couple years ago and just popped on Amazon to order more, as we could use more food storage around here. They are very thick, high quality glass and the containers are perfectly sized. And the price is awesome! I highly recommend these :)

Bought a set at TJ Maxx and wanted another set. Seals tight. Nice glass weight. Easy to clean, doesn’t leak, not cheap plastic. (I don’t put cover in microwave or dishwasher.) I’m sure it would be fine on top rack. Fav brand.

I like these for their lids which are better than the similar Pyrex. They are soda glass though, so know that.
