It’s easy to install, simple to control, and genuinely adds convenience to daily life without the usual complications. I first bought this switch to control a single light in a room where running a neutral wire wasn’t possible. Installation was straightforward, and the included battery made setup simple — no electrician required. Once paired with the Tapo Hub, it connected instantly to the app, and I could start controlling it remotely right away. The remote control and voice functionality are excellent. Using Alexa or Google Assistant, I can turn lights on or off without getting up, which is perfect for bedtime or when I’m carrying things around the house. The Away Mode is a particularly nice feature — it simulates someone being home, adding a layer of security when we’re out. The switch itself feels well-made and responsive. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Excellent, but needs a spacer for a standard back box

I almost gave this four stars (reasons below) but decided on five because it was so easy to install and it simply works. Real bonus that you can use it as a manual switch, which means that if there’s a power cut and the internet is down, you can still use it. (Just in case you’re wondering, yes, that was supposed to be a joke.) Where it really helps is that I can use voice activation or Alexa routines, and it doesn’t matter whether the switch is off or on (which is the problem I found with standalone smart light bulbs - people kept switching the switch off so the smart lightbulbs didn’t work). The switch looks modern, and quite stylish, but… The reason I almost gave it four stars is that it is quite deep at the back, and the wiring for my switches comes from above, but the connection in the switch is at the bottom, so I’ve had to buy quite a deep spacer 20mm) to allow for the shallow back box and to give space for the wires to run behind the Tapo switch components, meaning the switch extends from my wall by a total of around 30mm, so it sits like a box on the wall rather being flush fitting. That could be fixed if I could be bothered to dig out the old back box, chisel deeper into the wall, install a deeper back box, and skim or fill the edges and repaint the wall, but on balance, I’ve decided to live with the spacer.
