Product Description LOCTITE 577 - Universal thread sealantLOCTITE's thread sealant is medium strength and can be used universally for conical and cylindrical threaded connections. The heat resistant metal adhesive seals and secures at the same time: gaps are filled and an immediate sealing effect against low pressures is achieved for metal pipe connections. Although the thread sealant is liquid, the thixotropic properties prevent the adhesive from running off for easy application. As a universally applicable sealant, the metal adhesive is heat resistant and withstands both chemical and thermal stresses. The plumbing sealant can be used for all passive metals such as stainless steel and for active metals such as copper.To use, clean all surfaces with a solvent-based cleaner and allow to dry. In case of inactive metal surfaces or a too slow curing speed, spray with an activator (LOCTITE SF 7471 or SF 7649). Apply the adhesive 360° in a ring on the end of the male thread, leaving the first thread free. Spread adhesive down to the top of the thread to fill the gaps. For larger threads, adjust the quantity accordingly and also apply the product 360° in a ring on the internal thread. Screw-in pipe threads as usual and tighten with a tool until alignment is correct. With properly tightened connections, an immediate sealing effect against low pressures is achieved. **Q: Is it ok for central heating jobs**
A: Should be no problem for central heating

**Q: Is this suitable for drinking water systems?**
A: Yes LOCTITE 577 is suitable for use with domestic water systems and is approved for use with drinking water by WRAS when used with LOCTITE SF 7649 activator.

**Q: Is there a shelf life for this product I.e a use by date?**
A: I have used this at over 5yrs old and still works well, sealing water and vacuum pipes and compressed air pipes at 11bar pressure, have used this in my job for the last 20 years and can’t find anything to beat it

**Q: How long would be the recommended cure time before filling up a heating system with 1 bar water pressure please**
A: I used this on an oil sump differential. I used the catalyst spray to speed up the setting of the gel.
If warm (room temp) it will start to gel within minutes. 
Leave for 30mins minimum. Leave longer (overnight) if you want to be sure.

so i work on steam heated industrial washers and dryers and got fed up with ptfe tape being a pain to apply or it failing on the first week.. this stuff is easy to apply and sets almost right away ,can handle the high temps from steam and holds the joint perfectly.. and u can still remove the threaded joint and easy to clean off.. great on any compression olive fittings... its a little expensive but then so would having to restart the whole job a week later. its never failed to do the job..
