Is this suitable for an 18 months girl or boy?

Yes, I think it would be suitable for an 18 month old child. It would be fun for them to draw on the drawing board and they could sit at the little table with the legs attached and draw or play with other toys. I think it would be a fun toy to take on trips in the car or at a hotel. Easy to transport, no mess, and the stylus is attached so it won't get lost.

what does the backside look like? Is it flat and solid? Or is it hollow with cut outs of the parts on the front part?

The back is flat and solid, you can check the detailed pictures on the product page, the product does not have any sharp edges.

Is this a good Christmas present for a 1-year old kid?

Yes, it's something that a 1 year old can enjoy now and grow into as the child gets a little older.

How can i install the feet on it?

Very easy, follow the arrows that are clearly labeled on each individual leg.
