Review: Paint mixer - I bought this a while ago but I've only just got round to using it. You do need a variable speed drill or a very deep container. It is very effective and good value. I did find that running it backwards (anti-clockwise) mixed just as well and reduced the tendency to splash a lot. This is because it pushes the mix down rather than up.

The answer it's yes it it's brilliant for this. The bar is hexagonal in shape and should be perfect for being held in a drill chuck. However, I found that the hexagonal shape was not well formed (the flat sides are slightly convex) and the slightest vibration caused the bar to shake loose from the hand-tightened drill chuck. In a 4 minute process of mulching a large container of soggy paper, I had to re-tighten the chuck twice, so not a big deal.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Is this drill (Bosch PSB 650) good enough to use with this paddle. I will be using it to mix multifinish ?**
A: I purchased paddle to mix large tubs of paint with my Bosch drill.  The drill could mix multi finish at low speed.

**Q: what size drill chuck is needed**
A: 1/4", however most modern drills will do it for paint mix, but for plaster mix, I'd use a powerful drill my 18v cordless is great but my Bocsh corded is the best to use.

**Q: Would this paddle be suitable for mixing up shredded paper and water? The action required would turn the shredded paper into pulp.**
A: Not sure how to respond as I haven't used the paddle for this.Just used it for making cement. IIf you attached it to a high speed drill I imagine it would do a fair job making pulp. Might be helpful to rub off the thick paint cover down to the bare metal so it can cut the paper better?

**Q: How long is it? One description (next to the product picture) says it's 600mm, that's 60cm!! That's HUGE! Another description says 0.6cm, that's tiny!**
A: I don't remember the exact size as I gave it to the builder who was doing the work but it was roughly about 50 cm

When I initially ordered this Mixing Paddle I had mixed feelings, on one hand I expected it to be of a decent quality because it's from 'Silverline' (I've bought many products from them now and am frequently impressed by the quality and price); however, on the other hand it was only £4.41 delivered (I used Marketplace seller 'Rinkit Ltd', who I have found to be most reliable) so my expectations were not set particularly high. Well, I was pleasantly surprised upon it's delivery! As described the Mixing Paddle is 600mm in length, this is a pretty good size; it's long enough for most DIY users, and at the same time is short enough to make it easy to store. The Paddle section itself is 100mm across, with the blades being quite firmly fixed in place, so it should be enough to mix a good variety of substances without too much problem (I've used it on paint so far, but it is described as also being suitable for plaster, cement slurries and textured coatings, and I can see no reason for this not to be true). The whole piece has a nice solid feel about it, and certainly appears that it should provide a fair old bit of use; the fact that 'Silverline' have given it a lifetime guarantee (if registered online within thirty days) perhaps demonstrates their confidence. The Mixing Paddle is manufactured for use with electric drills with a chuck of 10mm or larger, and is designed to be used at speeds of between 500-700rpm. One thing I did like, as small and simple as it is though, was the addition of a small rubberised plastic cap with a loop that came attached to the chuck end; this will make storage easier for me, and it's thoughtful little touches such as that I like about many other 'Silverline' products I have purchased. Overall a good product, particularly concerning the price; it probably wouldn't be suitable for heavy use, it is very much a DIY product, but is one suitable for the keen DIYer and will stand up to pretty regular use. There are certainly bigger and better Mixing Paddles available, but the price you pay will reflect this and it would be interesting to see just how many of these come with a lifetime guarantee!
