Review: Science Classic - Professor Pollack is an anachronism: a scientist who does laboratory experiments to uncover the marvels of nature. This approach to science was the dominant one until the 20th century, at which point (thanks to Popper) open-minded scientific exploration for its own sake was abandoned in favour of simply testing hypotheses. This is a sterile way to do science, because the investigator is limited by the tenets of the predominant scientific ideology. Pollack's area of interest is water, the most common substance both on Earth and in our own bodies; science tends to think it of little interest, it apparently being merely the province of waterworks companies, sewage disposers and frackers. But take a closer look at water, as Pollack has done, and this everyday substance turns out to be a marvel of the natural world. Not only does it uniquely have three separate states, it also is brimming with puzzles: e.g. capilliary action in plants, surface tension, cloud formation and snowflake structure. To solve these mysteries, Pollack has devoted half his scientific career, returning to 18th and 19th century principles of what science is all about: as Faraday said, the experiment is all...and what intriguing experiments Pollack has done: wondrous in their elegant simplicity and keen intelligence-led creativity. In short, he has discovered a fourth state of water (what he calls "phase"), which not only explains many of water's mysteries, but also provides a mechanism for water being an information-carrier. Why is this important? Because it explains how cells communicate with each other electromagnetically as well as chemically - a controversial discovery made by Jacques Benveniste in the 1980s, subsequently replicated by Nobel Prizewinner Luc Montagnier 20 years later. Pollack realises his own discoveries challenge accepted scientific thinking, and writes perceptively about the bizarre fact that modern science rejects any fresh thinking as 'heresy' - a concept Faraday would have found incomprehensible as well as utterly reprehensible. The book is expensively produced, and the science is lucidly explained, with lively and often amusing graphics to guide the reader through Pollack's accounts of his ground-breaking experiments. It deserves to be a science classic - almost in the league of Newton's Principia or Darwin's Origin of the Species.
Review: New Science for Anyone - This book is great. Well written and interesting. You only need to know the basics of science to read this book. Pollack talks about his work with water and presents novel ideas challenging fundamentals. He uses what he has found to explain everyday phenomenon that we either take for granted, or, have questioned, but never found an answer to. He doesn't just speculate but presents us with evidence to back these claims. This book has been organised well and each chapter builds on from the previous. He writes so it feels like he is talking to the reader making it easy to continue reading. If you like science, want to read about novel ideas, and are open-minded this book is for you.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A fascinating read
*by J***R on 1 July 2015*

This is the first science book I have read that is a real page-turner: it had me gripped from first to last! The author takes us on a completely comprehensible trip through some science that is both extremely basic and quite new. I cannot judge how many of the claims and speculations - which are clearly sign-posted as such - are likely to be true, but to read the book is to go on a beautiful voyage of exploration in territory you thought you knew: a riveting read.
