The handle on top is plastic and I suspect you could hang it up but it will hold a lot of seed or food and the weight might be a bit too much for the handle after a while. Plastic being what it is, tends to get brittle with age and sunlight, plus, depending on the birds, it may swing about a lot and you might get spillage of the food. If you have to hang it up don't put too much food in it to keep the weight down. Hope this helps.
