You are left guessing throughout the story and trying to make sense of it and then all of a sudden it clicks and you are left teary eyed. We managed to watch it twice in one evening and the second time you pick up some detail you might have missed first time watching it as the story is really gripping and draws you in. There are moments where there is silence and you stop breathing to take it all in, very well produced and created. Will be a shame if this is the last for Studio Ghibli feature films but what a high to end on. Highly recommended for teenagers as you can see Anna develop throughout the film to a confident person which Studio Ghibli highlight in many of their films, the location is beautiful and reminds me and my family of when we went to Isle of Mull Review: Beautiful and magical - I'm starting to build up quite a collection of studio ghibli movies and this is absolutely right up there with my top favourites such as Spirited Away, Kiki & Howls moving castle. The story is beautiful and the characters are especially lovable and seem so real. I've only had this around a week and I've already watched it twice. It's so relaxing and intriguing. As with most of these films, the little details are all placed right such as the music that plays when Anna is dreaming, the little moments when she is thinking back to things in her life. I don't want to give the story away but I would definitely recommend this. Yes I too felt a little emotional at the end but it's such a beautiful story. For me I'd say it's a cross between Kiki's delivery service and Arietty although I found it a lot more interesting than the latter. Settle down for a cozy night with a hot drink and totally get lost in this wonderful story. You won't be disappointed. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Studio Ghibli at its very best! *by C***N on 6 November 2016* When Marnie Was There is like anything that Studio Ghibli lay their hands upon pure gold in terms of beautifully created, amazing music and a story that doesn't leave you with a tear falling down your cheek I will be shocked. The story is about Anna who gets sent away for the summer due to her asthma. During this time she becomes intrigued by this abandoned mansion acrossed the marsh, that she is sure she sees lights on in the windows at times. She views this mansion quite a few times due to her hobby of sketching, and on one of these times something magical happens in the way that she ends up meeting Marnie. The story is about a beautiful friendship, bravery, truth and over all love. When Marnie Was There was originally written by the wonderful author of the Teddy Robinson books. If you are a fan of anime, Studio Ghibli or just a lover of films with a beautiful story then you can't miss out on this.
