They prefer dark spaces, and will readily crawl into the tubes which provide hiding places for them, making it easy to use the tubes as dispensing tools. The tubes remain in position when the lid is removed, allowing easy access and less chance of cricket escape. Tip To keep your cricket alive longer “gut load” or provide a slice of apple for food! Directions for Use Use as cricket carrier or holding pen. Simply slide the tube out of the Exo Terra Cricket Pen and drop the flapper down to prevent escapes. If needed, cover the tube opening with one hand while transporting it to the terrarium or feeder. Remove your hand and lightly tap on the tube to release the appropriate number of cricket for feeding. Only one tube should be removed at a time to avoid cricket escaping. Cricket Care They should be kept in a well-ventilated room at a temperature range between 21-23 °C (70-75 °F) with low humidity. Keep the cricket pen out of direct sunlight and cold drafts. Always keep the cricket pen clean and dry. High quality cricket food and water (gel) should be provided at all times, both of which should be offered in the shallow food and water dishes provided. If water gel is not available, a moist sponge may be used. Do not use water only as they may drown.

I tend not to use the trays supplied as I prefer to use fresh fruit and vegetables to feed the crickets but they are good for dried food, water gel or the sponge can be used if you need to use water but I found it tricky getting these out again when there were still crickets in the tank; you could maybe attach strings or something to pull them up to make it easy. The tank is easy to clean with few parts for muck to get stuck in but the tubes are best cleaned out using a bottle brush. I've had very few problems using this, the tubes are ideal particularly when you are adding a calcium or vitamin powder to your pet's food as all you do is shake a few of the insects out of the tube, into a plastic bag and add the powder and shake the bag out into your pet's tank. I don't remove the clear cap ends as I see no need to and there are no replacements if I lost or broke any of them if I were to remove them. Overall, this is great for people who have pets who need insects to eat but who prefer to keep the contact with the insects to a minimum and have few escapees!

**Q: Would 1st crickets (around 5mm crickets) be able to fit through the vents on the lid? Dont want my crickets being able to get out and reak havoc :).**
A: Just bought the pen, size 3 crickets are escaping from the holes at the side of the handles, I have had to cover it with netting to stop them getting out.

**Q: Could you keep loccust in this**
A: Yes indeed & works well. In my view can hold about 50 comfortably at a time

A: Pen is a word for tank or enclosure

**Q: Locust got out**
A: I have this tank for my locust I.place the black tubes in but inhave also had it with no tubes in just make sure the sides are.closed

I use the large size it makes emptying out the plastic containers insects typically come packaged in the shops and also means that I can place plenty of fresh food for the crickets so they are gut-loaded before they are fed to my gecko. I tend not to use the trays supplied as I prefer to use fresh fruit and vegetables to feed the crickets but they are good for dried food, water gel or the sponge can be used if you need to use water but I found it tricky getting these out again when there were still crickets in the tank; you could maybe attach strings or something to pull them up to make it easy. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Bit of caution.

I’m new to keeping insects as live food for my beardy. There’s definitely potential of escape from the top flap (some space between the ‘clasp’) so i stuffed some tissue in there - and added a weight on top to keep it pressed down as it was a bit wobbly. I might be overly cautious but given the reviews of escape i rather be safe than sorry. The holes are definitely unnecessarily big- smaller insects can certainly escape. Only one locust in the tube so far so i will have to wait any see if its effective as a feeding technique.
