They are laced all the way up so just make sure you loosen them off before tying. I am actually a 5.5 and the 5 was a generous fit even with thick socks. **Q: Do i need to buy a size bigger than i am?** A: Well I'm a size 4 and bought a size 4, i found that the skates don't fit perfectly like shoes do which is good so you have a bit of room to wear thick socks. I think they take into account the need for room in boots as they aren't tight at all. But, always dubious, I did think maybe they wouldn't be so great for me, seeing as though I have fat little feet! I was however extremely pleased after an hour skating. The fit was perfect, although I probably would have got away with buying my actual size 5, but went a size up just in case. No pinching, no aching feet, and the skates came sharpened to perfection! I would definitely recommend these, and honestly, for this price, you won't find a better skate. Oh, also, the delivery was fast. Five stars, would've given more if I could!!! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Excellent boots for beginners...good support *by on Reviewed in the United Kingdom 27 April 2015* Excellent Skates for a beginner, great support around the ankles. recommended to be sharpened (usually at ice rink), my son aged 11/12 is a clarks size 5 1/2 (adult sizing) E width, these are slightly to big at a 6 as would be expected, but with a thick ski sock they are very comfortable for him giving the right support. I am a 5 1/2 popped them on and they were very comfortable with a little spare room for toes obviously being an adult my foot is slightly wider than my sons. Hope this gives you a good guide. These look leather (not like the plastic ones in the ice rink) and after a few lessons he will get used to them (skaters have to get used to new boots, so if they are not as good at skating for a couple of weeks, the change of boots does affect performance - so a few practice sessions might be good. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Good first skates *by on Reviewed in the United Kingdom 18 January 2025* I was aware that these are on the lower end of the scale for quality but I didn't want to spend £200 on a pair of skates that my daughter will grow out of in 6 months and probably get bored of skating (when she realises how hard it is!). I got the blades sharpened and so far they are doing well. My daughter has used them about 6 times. We're still playing about with getting the laces right in terms of being tight enough around the ankle but soft enough around the leg to allow her to bend. We bought some skate tape which was so worth it otherwise they'd be scuffed up already.
