Was just cleaning stuff out of the bag so took a tape measure to it. It's at least 20 inches along the inside back panel bottom to top. I've taken it out on a number of excursions and has been really good as long as I remember not to overload it! The bag itself is heavier and more voluminous/bigger than my old backpack, which is fine! I'm just trying to get used to the fabric being heavier/the bag being wider, since it doesn't fit well in places I used to put my old bag, keep that in mind before buying a new bag! It was my own fault for not thinking about that part before buying though I definitely do not regret buying it! The biggest plus for this bag to me is the addition of the removeable waist strap. I have had no desire to remove it so far since I usually take the bag with me, though I definitely understand the appeal of that! The waist strap is comfortable across my, admittedly larger, belly and can adjust to fit a larger man like myself. It is so comfortable and helps relieve stress off of my shoulders and lower back since it sits on my waist and is comfortably snug. Despite the bag tending to be heavier than my old backpack, it actually feels much more comfortable and less stressful on my body due to the waist strap. I could go on and on about how amazing it is, try it for yourself and you'll see how amazing it is! This doesn't even go into the incredible variety that the Molle system can bring you! There are countless configurations and items that you can attach with it, so far we just have water bottle holders for my wife and I, though we have bigger things planned for it, like a getting a Molle compatible lunch box to hang from the bottom, because there are Molle straps there! Overall a great bag that I plan to use for years to come and will be able to adapt to my needs/wants as I see fit while helping reduce stress on my shoulders and back that other bags cause.
