PSU Tester tool to check dead PSU
A PSU tester is a useful, inexpensive โfirst-passโ tool. Itโs great for basic checks: dead PSUs, obviously faulty units, or ensuring rails nominally output correct voltages before building a PC. Pros: Safe and easy to use Affordable & handy for basic diagnostics Cons: Only tests idle output, not under-load behavior No check for power quality

USeful voltage checker
I opened up the unit for you guys so you can see what's inside. The microcontroller or measurement IC's are underneath the display module so I can't tell what they are. The unit appears to be well-made and the soldering is OK. The unit operates when the main power connector is plugged in and the power supply is turned on. If the 4 pin MB power connector is not plugged in, the unit will show, for the +12V2 voltage, "L.L" and the unit will beep. The beeps are very quiet. You should only connect, at any one time, only one of these three power plugs: SATA Floppy (does anyone have a floppy drive these days?) 4 pin Molex This is because they are all wired to the green LEDs at once and connecting more than one power plug at a time in parallel wouldn't mean much. This isn't explained in the documentation, which needs a second round of editing to make the operation of the device clearer. The three green LEDs indicating 3.3, 5, or 12 V from the floppy, SATA, and 4 pin Molex power connectors are not an indication of a measurement "good" signal from an active device that is "measuring" the voltages. Rather, they are simply wired straight to the incoming voltages from the connected SATA, Floppy, or Molex plugs with a series current limiting resistor. It is not a "measurement" in the sense that the other voltages indicated on the LCD display are being measured. It is just a "dumb" indication that a voltage sort-of close to the required voltage is present, or that the wires are actually connected properly. The 3.3, 5, or 12 V lines could be off by a bit and the LEDs would still light up, but they would be brighter or darker than they would be with the correct voltage applied. You can look at the main LCD if you want to know the exact voltage coming out of those power supplies. Also, this measurement unit does not load the power supply and draw a lot of power like a real operating computer will when plugged into the power supply. So, if the power supply has problems maintaining proper voltages operating under a load, this unit will not tell you that. But you could infer that problem if all the voltages showed OK using this tester, but the PC still won't run properly (could be many other problems also ...).

Reliable PSU Tester with Clear Instructions and Accurate Results
This PSU tester is a fantastic tool for diagnosing power supply issues! The 24-pin connector is a snug fit, but it works perfectly once connected. The instructions included were thorough, written clearly in English, and made the process of plugging everything in straightforward. I really appreciated the beeps that let me know when it was ready for the 4p, 6p, and 8p connectors (didnโt try Molex or SATA, but Iโm sure theyโd work just as well). It helped me confirm a failed power supplyโjust keep in mind that the tester is powered by the 24-pin, so if the PSU is completely dead, the tester wonโt light up. I tested it with a second PSU, and the device worked perfectly, showing accurate voltages. The only downside is that it didnโt include instructions for unplugging, but thatโs minor and doesnโt affect its performance. Highly recommend this tool for anyone troubleshooting PC power issues!

Easy to use and works as advertised
Excellent piece of kit. Got tired of guessing if a no-boot problem was the PSU, the case, or something else. After shorting the power switch on the mobo, this simple and cheap gadget saves me from having to swap PSUs.

Cheaper than blowing up a motherboard
Computer PSUs produce multiple voltages on multiple different styles of connector. I used to check them out by plugging them into a known good motherboard - until I had a bad PSU blow up that (formerly) good mobo. So far this tester has given me good service in testing PSUs - not just good/bad, but also ensuring the voltages are in spec on all sorts of connectors. Worth having one in your toolbox if you work on PCs.

Inaccurate because it provides no load
This tester is pretty convenient in form factor, being able to connect to the ATX power plug (20 or 24 pin) and test the voltage of the power supply. It includes plugs all around for testing the 12V power supply for the CPU, GPU, and SATA or other accessories. It also shows the frequency of the power OK signal. One usability issue is that it has no power switch. Plug it in, and it turns on immediately. However, a major problem is that it provides no load. I got it to test a PSU that turned out to be broken. When the PSU turned on, this device showed all voltages good. It was only when I found some way to add a load outside the tester, then this tester was able to show that the PSU isnโt able to maintain its voltages.
