Super Toasty if you start early.

Purchased for a trip to Norway to see the Northern Lights. They work brilliantly if you use them in a certain way. These are the tips that worked for us in temperatures of down to -24.7 Celsius.1. Open the package one hour before you go out it to the cold and place them in a warm place. I believe this is because the heat is generated by a chemical reaction and the warm the ambient air the stronger the reaction.2. Place them in your gloves 10 mins before going out in the cold.3. Once out in the cold try to keep them in the glove. The cold air will stop the chemical reaction.4. If they lose their heat generation in the cold place them both in a front trouser/jean pocket. (your core body temperature will restart the reaction and warmth)(if you put them together they will help each other and you will know when they are ready as one pocket will be toasty)For me it seemed that my husbands pockets where warming than mine as he was able to restart the reaction within 5 mins or so...Once we had figured all this out we managed to keep them going for 6+ hrs and had lovely warm hands.

    Good enough....

I bought these as part of my first aid kit that I carry every day. Of course I had to try one out first to see what it was like, so following the instructions, I took it out of the packet and it should heat immediately on contact with air. It actually took about 10 minutes before it had got to full temperature and I have to admit they do produce steady heat (although not the 50-70 decrees C that the packet suggested).I think the biggest difference between these and the 'snap' hand warmers is that these ones provide a constant heat for longer, but not as hot. Where as the 'snap' hand warmers provide more heat faster but not for as long.Would I buy them again? Yes. I think that they do work quite well and I can see myself using them through the winter.

    Effective & Eventually Get HOT!

*by M***W on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 23 January 2013*

Wanted these for when I'm walking the dog. After several uses found it was best to open them and shake them before placing in mittens an hour before you want to go out. This morning I did not have time so opened them at 8.20am to walk at 9.00am. They were comfortably warm and continued to be for the whole hour. Came home and left them in my mittens, got on and when I put my mittens back on at 12pm, they were hot, almost too hot to hold. I was not out long but they were much hotter than in the morning. Out of interest left them in my mittens when I got back and checked every so often, still warm at 2.45pm.Better in mittens as tried them in my boots and they felt uncomfortable, like your walking on gravel.Only real downside is the cost at £1 each won't be buying anymore but nice to try and they do work.
