It's a simple and straightforward task, the positions on the butts having a centre guide hole. This is a job that you would generally use a hole (tank) cutter, but the chances of having a 27mm one? Probably about...... zero. BUT, if you have a standard 25mm one, you should be fine with a little manipulation (only plastic, after all). This is what I did. BTW, works perfectly at one side of my garage where I have 2 x 100 ltr butts side by side. The other side (more space, I have a 250ltr! Good luck. **Q: I want to order this and a longer hose. What size is the hose? The description says 3.4cm but someone below said to drill a hole of 2.5cm** A: Inside diameter of hose is 26mm, outside diameter is 31mm. Annoying as specs said it was 25mm inside diameter and I (like you) separately bought a longer hose to connect two butts together. That said the hose had an inside diameter of 25mm, but it is 24mm. So my hose won't fit on this connector. You need a drill and 27mm bit to cut the holes and these are easily done. I did not have a 27mm bit so used a 32mm bit which makes fitting the pipe connectors easy to insert. The connectors have a rubber washer to prevent leaks. once the connectors are fitted to the two water butts it is then just a simple matter of cutting the corrugated pipe to the length you need and pushing each end onto the connectors.
