I also thought that I would be able to programme a two, or three channel number from, say, button number one but my attempts to do that have failed. As said already its great for basic functions. I got it for my elderly Dad and its the best thing I ever got. Vol and channel up/down,and numbers. No more getting stuck in menus/text etc and not knowing how to exit from them, however it is possible to programme any button to any function so you could use it for advanced functions,plus its programable for two devices. **Q: how do i programme it to work a hitachi tv for person with dementia** A: The instructions are not the easiest. Remember that you have to programme all of the buttons including the on off ones.So:-Point this controller at the one you want to replace press A and the down button until the light comes on. Press the button you want to programme on this one and then the button on the old one. The light on the new one will then flash 3 times. Keep doing this for each button. If you want it to control another TV do the same with the B button.When you want to use it you have to press A then the on/off button or B then the on off button to switch on and the reverse to turn off.It took me a couple of attempts with some of the buttons.Whether it is suitable for someone with dementia I do not know but if they do not need to change channels or use only a restricted range you do not need to programme all the buttons in fact you can programme any button for anything.
