## Description

The Mighty Bosscats are a contemporary British blues band led by songwriter and guitarist Richard Townend, for whom this is an eighth album release during the last four years, but his first to be released by Trapeze. Richard has been nominated no less than three times for his songs in the British Blues Awards, his writing being compared to J.J. Cale, Chris Rea and Dire Straits. Originally associated with the style of Stevie Ray Vaughn, The Mighty Bosscats now have a cooler sound in a more relaxed incarnation. The new album Bossman is an eclectic mix of styles, drawing on Richard and the band's background not only in blues, but also country and jazz, sitting firmly in the Americana cool stable, with fourteen songs themed around the challenges of life. The Mighty Bosscats are Richard Townend (guitar/vocals), Phil Wilson (bass, vocals), Glen Buck (drums) and Phil Pawsey (harp/keys/vocals), and the album has guest appearances from Kat Evans (violin), Will Potten (trumpet, flugel, trombone); Alex Outlaw (backing vocals). There is full information about the band and the CD at www.richardtownend.com, and the band have an entertaining array of videos on YouTube, both live and promotional. Melancholic, relaxed and enthralling: Richard Townend is a fascinating songwriter in the world of Blues. With The Mighty Bosscats he has a band that make his songs prime examples of contemporary blues WASSER-PRAWDA.DE

Another classic from the Richard Townend stables

Another brilliant offering from Richard Townend and The Mighty Bosscats. With hints of Dire Straights and Chris Rea, this is a great album with story telling lyrics, brilliant musical production and well worthy of being in anyones CD collection. Modern blues at its best, but without the distortion and volume of rock - there are elements of country and, in the title track 'Bossman', you can hear the bluegrass influence. Listen out loud, or listen through headphones (I prefer the latter) and you will continuously hear something you did not hear the time before.A brilliant album and the previous ones are well worth checking out too at www.richardtownend.com

A must-have in your Blues collection!!!

After being fully engaged with his previous work, 7 deadly sins and listening and enjoying to it over an over, enters Richard and band with his newest work.Bossman is a beautifully crafted piece. Richard didn't let anything to chance and took great care of every single detail, from the cover and inside designs to the sequence of songs to tell his story. Each song is a journey that takes you to a different place and time. My favorites and which I'd loved to see played live are "You are You and I Am I", "Time" and "The Guitarist", which brought tears to my eyes, very deep and down to earth.I love "Friends" and the closing song, "Every Day", mellow and contagious...The lyrics are a whole reflection on the past, relationships and life in general. Put the headphones on and let the Mighty take you on a wonderful ride of blues...

    Great collection of songs

*by J***L on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 13 November 2015*

A great collection of songs that steps into blues, country, bluegrass and American rock territories whilst offering something original too.The songs rarely stray into clichéd space with grown up themes often explored as well as a smattering of humour and poignancy amongst the catchy tunes. Recommended.
