## Description

RQ-100-US Handheld Anemometer

Review: Will measure wind velocity as low as a slow walking speed. Functions are selected by pressing the appropriate button. There are no menus to sort through - everything is up front. Batteries are included and are easy to install with the included screwdriver. Used to measure wind velocity at the field where we fly model RC planes. It's better than a wind sock. Would recommend as it seems to be a quality instrument, well worth the money.
Review: I really like this Waporich Digital Handheld anemometer. But then again, I am a weather enthusiast, even having a small weather station installed on my property. Here's the thing about that, though: it accurately measures wind direction and speed where it's mounted, but other places on the property have different readings, and it's useful to know exactly what the wind speed is in different areas for purposes such as drone flying, for example. Also, my fixed weather station only transmits wind speed data around every 20 seconds or so, and consequently trying to determine wind gusts isn't very accurate, as often the "snapshot" for the data transmission misses the gust completely. That's why I ordered this model (RQ-100) when I saw it on desertcart. It's pretty inexpensive yet has a good feature set. It measures the wind in what I consider the most common units: miles/hour, KM/hour, and knots. But it also measures in Meters/second and Feet/minute, so regardless of your unit of choice this device will probably have you covered. I appreciate the ability to take real-time wind measurements, and I also love the max speed and min speed functions (which continuously reads the speed and updates the highest and lowest speeds respectively measured in a given time period).as well as the average wind speed function. The unit also displays the ambient temperature in either F or C selectable from the front panel. There is also a backlight for the display so you can easily see the readings in any light level. The device includes a nice zippered storage/carrying case, as well as a wrist strap. I compared the readings from my weather station to the WapoRich and they seemed pretty close from my judgement. The WapoRich actually registered a little lower than the weather station, but that's to be expected because the sensor is mounted on a pole around 10 feet above the ground, while I held the WapoRich much lower than that, with more obstructions being closer to the ground. So why didn't I give the RQ-100 a full five stars? Functionally speaking, it probably deserves that. But I deducted one star for four minor issues that I had (1/4 of a point for each issue): 1) the Anemometer has a bit of a lightweight cheap feel. 2) there is a tripod mount on the bottom of the unit, and that is where the wrist strap attaches. A tripod screws into the hole quite smoothly, but the wrist strap must have poor machining because it only screws in a short distance, and then it starts to feel like it's cross-threading. In fairness, this could be chalked up to an anomaly with my particular unit. 3) this one is especially minor: there is a rubber cover on the back of the unit that looks like it would house a USB-C or Micro-USB port. But in fact, if you remove the cover there is really a port for....nothing. Maybe the same case is used for more than one meter, but this just seemed like a little bit of sloppy design to me. 4) the battery compartment access door is held on with screws (it doesn't just latch in place like most battery doors do. And the screws are TINY. It would be much easier to lose one or both of the screws than it would be to NOT lose them. This con is partially offset because at least the package includes the batteries and a little screwdriver for opening the door. But still, make sure that when inserting or changing the batteries that you are somewhere that if you drop them, you will easily be able to find them. In my opinion, the functionality and features of the WapoRich RQ-100 win out over the annoyances I mentioned. I am still happy with this device, and look forward to it satisfying my weather-enthusiast needs for years to come!
