Grips well through a piece of cardboard (took note of others reporting jaw-marks; what do you expect. It has to grip a smooth metal surface!!). I’d mounted it on my portable workbench with a couple of clamps. It just works. For me as an infrequent user, it’s perfectly fine. Why spend more - in fact, a trade user could buy three of these for the cost of the next model on Amazon. It’s a very substantial ‘lump’ - not in any way flimsy. Not sure if it’s cast or machined, so would be wary about dropping it. Surprised there were no washers on any of the bolts - but that’s easily remedied. Basically works fine on electrical conduit.
