I am a professional gardener and have 2 pairs of No 6 and 1 pair of No 2( I need a spare No 6 when I send the other 2 pairs off to be serviced). I use No 6 the most, it will prune just about anything. Every year I send them back to Felco to be serviced, it costs £25 and they come back looking like new. I used these generally 5-6 days a week, so bear that in mind - if you look after yours and use them just occasionally, they will last a really long time. I have tried using cheaper secateurs, there is just no point, it is false economy, but that's just my opinion. Whilst I think Felco do not make the best pruning saws, they definitely make the best secateurs. **Q: Hi I bought a felco 2, 4 months ago and there already not usable as the thread has gone to tighten them up. Any help would be great thank you.** A: This is very unusual as these are quality secateurs. Have you used them on over large branches , have they been strained in any way ? I suggest that you return them to the Felco suppliers where you bought them as they should be under warranty after such a short period of usage, explain your disappointment and ask for an exchange . Swiss made and Swiss precision I have used these secateurs in a commercial situation for over forty years and never had any problems with them. Normally they would not need tightening until a blade change is required , just a quick sharpen with a small oil stone before work. If they worked loose during normal work then it sounds as though the thread may be faulty. You should have had a small screwdriver blade included in your purchase pack which is really the only tool required for maintenance and is used to tighten the screw which engages the toothed locking device on the secateurs . Check to see if this is missing but essentially if still a problem then check with your supplier. There may well be sellers sending out fakes, but is you buy from Amazon direct they are 100% genuine. I brought the first pair for my wife 16 years ago and they have been superb. I do keep those sharp and oiled, and that’s a pleasure to do also for such high quality items, part of the joy of owning them in fact. Problem came when we were both out in the garden and when I needed a pair to have in the van...so....looked around at cheaper items, both on Amazon and also in "real life stores" (gosh, shock, horror!). Once you have had a pair of Felcos, you really are just never going to be satisfied with anything else! So, I dug deep and splashed out on a second pair. Interesting that whilst I had kept the others in super condition, the new ones are of course amazing! The quality is still the same, the look and feel the same and yes....I even checked them on the kitchen scales to see if they weighed the same - they do! So, these are the same, top quality items that they always were. Supplied with a very, very sharp blade too – be careful! Yes, lots of cheaper ones around, and yes these are pricey. Here you get what you pay for. However, they really do the job with ease, they are comfortable, they feel great in the hand and they are made to out last anything else you could buy. I have stuck with the model 2 on both occasions as I just like them but would be sure the others in the range would have the same qualities. I might even look to see what other products Felco do as I am a bit of a critic normally with tools and these are even up to my exacting standards!
