I was advised they are probably looking for a place to build a nest and it was not a real infestation at that stage. I thought I'd try a fumigating DIY method in the hope it works and save hiring a speciakist pest controler. The foggers were incredibky easy to use. I wore goggles, overalls, breathing mask - the lot! Which was unecessary :) The foggers lit up easily, I placed one on the floor of each half of the loft, closed the loft hatch and went back in a few days. I haven't had any more wasps in the loft since.
