## Description

From the manufacturer Put your sax on your shoulder! Transfer the weight evenly over both shoulders No strain on your neck Folds down for compact storage Equally suitable for male and female players Why should I be using saXholder? Extremely comfortable The unique design of saXholder spreads the weight of your instrument evenly across both shoulders and the stomach. This is different to traditional saxophone straps which leave the weight of the instrument supported by the neck of the player. Compact design Great for storage when not in use, saXholder is so compact that it fits neatly into your case. saXholder will fit perfectly into the bell of tenor or baritone saxophones, or can be stowed in a sheet music bag as it folds together smaller than a sheet of paper. Universal model saXholder is designed for use by male and female players. It offers maximum playing comfort whether seated or standing to play, and can be used for all sizes of saxophone from soprano down to baritone! You can also use it with the Akai EWI as well as bass clarinet and bassoon. Suitable for players 12 years old and up. Who uses Saxholder? Young musicians Saxophones can be very heavy, especially for young beginners. It is important to limit any potential harm or discomfort that young players could face as a result of their instrument choice. saXholder is a great way to get around the weight issue that could put youngsters off and ensure that their playing career doesn't suffer from posture related setbacks. Adults The modern world is so busy, and the amount of items we carry with us for any given task can be overwhelming. saXholder is designed to be incredibly portable and can slot into any available storage with ease. This gives you more space for your tablet, smart phone, keys, wallet and everything else we can't do without! Established players So you've been playing sax for years? Maybe even made a career out of it? You've never felt this comfortable holding your horn though! Reduce gig fatigue dramatically with the innovative design of saXholder. You may even notice an improvement in your air steam and tone production due to the lack of pressure on the neck.

Review: Just what I have been looking for - Like many saxophone players, I suffer terribly with neck and shoulder problems. My cervical spine is in such poor condition that I can actually feel the vertebrae cracking against each other in the mornings. I have been searching for an alternative to a neck-sling for ages, especially since I started doubling my tenor with the baritone sax. I tried harnesses but found them far too restrictive and couldn't breathe properly. I tried a Neotech shoulder strap for saxophone which just goes over one shoulder instead of round the neck, but after any length of time with the baritone the muscle on the left shoulder (I think it's called the Trapezium) just went dead and I could hardly lift my arm. In desperation I started looking at playing-stands for the baritone, and would have forked out the two to three hundred quid required for these if I had been convinced that they would have worked. Unfortunately they all look as though you have to play seated, and I didn't fancy being that restricted. Then I saw this Saxholder. For just over £40.00 I thought this was worth a risk, and I'm absolutely delighted with it. At first glance it looks a bit fragile, but it seems well made and I have no reason to suppose that it won't stand up to the job required of it. Certainly it works well with both tenor and baritone, without even having to make much adjustment to the length of the cord which holds the hook. Other reviewers have remarked that the pad which rests on the stomach or abdomen is prone to slipping about a lot, but I have had no problems although I have a fairly flat abdomen. (Sorry everyone, I'm not casting any aspersions here). It does move slightly to one side when you ease the weight of the sax off (like sitting down between tunes with the weight resting on your thigh), but when standing up playing, the weight of the sax keeps this nicely in place as a proportion of the weight is transferred to the abdominal pad. This is adjustable up or down, to accomodate players with different length torsos. I find mine is best at the longest setting where the pad rests just below my belt. This is not restrictive in any way, and doesn't affect my breathing. I even think that it improves my posture as I tend to keep my back straighter, and therefore breathe more effectively as well. The shoulder hooks are quite comfortable and don't feel as though they are going to slip off. After a while I know that I have been wearing the baritone, but it is 100% better than anything else I have found. The only improvement I can think of would be to make the shoulder hooks perhaps slightly wider and more padded, but then they might not hook over the shoulders quite so effectively. Otherwise it's brilliant, and when folded up into it's bag you can slip it into the bell of the horn.
Review: Brilliant! - Amazing product! Takes the weight of my tenor sax comfortably onto my shoulders, no more neck ache! I can now practice for much longer. You hardly feel the harness when it is on and it is equally comfortable both standing and sitting. I can't recommend it highly enough. Yes it is a bit pricey but in my opinion it was money well spent.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Would this be suitable for a large 'well endowed' lady! all the images show very flat fronted people wearing it so not sure it would adjust.**
A: Hi JulieB, the Saxholder is brilliant - I am also a large lady with a very ample bust and the Saxholder works perfectly. The arm bits that go around your neck are shaped so they do not lay flat against your chest but curve outwards so nothing digs in. The bar that goes downwards adjusts so you wear it wherever is comfortable for you. I cannot recommend it highly enough. I will never go back to wearing a neck strap. It holds the weight of my tenor so well I can play comfortably for so much longer. I think it was worth every penny! Hope this helps. :o)

**Q: What about an alto saxaphone will it be ok for that as i dont see that one stated**
A: Yes its is fine for alto. I use it for my tenor, alto and soprano. Just adjust the string length.
Its excellent to use when you are stood up or have the sax in front of you whilst seated (so for an alto that's very easy!) but its a bit out of balance when you are sat down with the sax to one side, as is usual for tenor players.

**Q: Is it suitable for a tenor sax?**
A: I have found it suitable for both tenor and baritone saxes. There is sufficient adjustment in the cord to allow for this, although if you tend to wear the tenor at a rakish angle across the body (as most players do), the side of the instrument can come into contact with the rigid vertical strut down the front which can give rise to some rubbing over time which might leave some scuff marks on the lacquer. If you can hold the tenor a bit more upright like an alto, then you can alleviate this problem. I think it's worth trying to adjust your technique in this way if you suffer from any neck problems, although I have to say that this device works best when playing standing up. It can feel a little cumbersome when sitting down, and you may want to carry a conventional sling around with you as well and "mix & match". Another alternative is one of the many shoulder straps on the market (Neotech do one), although the weight is of course all on the one shoulder (the Trapezius muscle if I'm not mistaken). At least this Saxholder distributes the weight evenly on both shoulders and it feels quite comfortable once you get used to it. Hope this helps and doesn't just add to the confusion. Paul Taylor.

**Q: Is it small enough when folded to store in the bell of an alto, so to fit in the case along with the instrument?**
A: I have just tried to do this with my Yanagisawa alto sax, and while the case did close, I felt that there was some resistance when I did this. I would be unhappy to do this as a general rule as I felt that the folded sling would be pressing up against the keywork of an alto sax. I always put my sling into the bell of my bari (Yani again) and there is plenty of room. Not sure about a tenor though.
