Review: Up to the job. - Excellent functionality, very useful tool. A well made designed and manufactured product.
Review: A very cost effective/ handy winch - A 15m tall (12" round) tree in our garden had decided to start learning over and threaten our neighbour's shed, so much so that I couldn't cut any of it down without the branches falling into their garden. So I took a bit of a punt on this winch to help pull the tree back over to our side of the fence and didn't want to spend too much in case my plan didn't work. But to my surprise, this did exactly want I had hoped, pulling what I would estimate to be 500kgs of tree back upright and then down into our garden. It does have a couple of limitations though: 1. The length of the wire cable is only 1-1.5m long so you have to reset it quite often if you're pulling some distance, which is a pain as you need another rope to hold the tension while you reset the other strap lengths or chocks if you were pulling a car/ trailer, or just taking up a little bit of stretch/ slack in the system. 2. It's a bit awkward to let out the wire while it is under tension, as you have to flip the 2 rachet levers in order. 3. It doesn't come with any instructions, but to be honest if you can't work out how to operate it, you probably shouldn't be doing what you're about to use it for. Overall I'm more than happy with my purchase and would recommend it, just consider purchasing some lifting strops or tow straps if you're planning on pulling things around your garden, as anchor position and length of 'drag' are essential things to consider.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: I need to pull my trailer up a slope by hand about 6 meters will this winch do the trick? The trailor weighs between 500 to 600 kgs.**
A: I bought my winch to pull over a fully grown ash tree. Which it did without any problems. This winch gives you four tonnes of grunt which should be more than enough for you needs. Make sure you have some chocks for your trailer wheels as you will probably need 3 or 4 pulls to get your trailer the 6m distance. Also, watch your fingers when extending the cable after each pull. The pawls (2 of them) can be pretty stiff.

**Q: Is possible to attach this to a Jet Ski roller trailer permanently and how will it fare on a trailer angle of about 30degrees to pull ski off beach?**
A: You'd have to improvise to permanently attach this to a trailer. Can't see it struggling to pull a jet ski up 30 degrees however this winch wouldn't be my choice for your purpose. It only has a few feet of movement in it so you'd probably have to reattach and adjust the cable several times to get the ski onto the trailer - you'll get very frustrated very rapidly. Unravelling the cable is also a bit of a pain, ok for occasional use but I'm sure there are better options available for what you need.

**Q: How do you actually loosen the cable ? New at this. Tried everything but can’t figure it out.**
A: If the cable is not taught i.e. very slack, then it's just necessary to release both sets ratchet pawls together (the two main pawls either side of the drum & the smaller one on the reverse side) and you can then pull the cable out. If the cable is taught, then it would be dangerous to try & release both sets of pawls together - remember it pulls 4 tons & that's a lot of stress. There is a two way catch by the handle base. Slide the catch to the other position. It's on a small spring and will stay there once you put it over. Operating the handle a little (a small movement) will now release the main pawls (the pair on either side of the drum). Both pawl points should spring out. Move the handle round to make the pawls contact the gear and press the handle down, which should rotate the cable drum slightly in the tension direction, enabling you to lift the small pawl on the reverse underside. The tension is now transferred to the handle & you can then then release the tension & cable slightly by moving the handle. It'll only release two or three inches at a time to prevent a sudden release of the cable tension. Repeat this several times until all tension is released. Then you can safely pull both sets of pawls off the gear & pull the remaining cable off by hand.

**Q: Does it come in any type of storage box?**
A: Not a 'Storage Box' (which would be useful), just a cardboard box - multi-colour printed with instructions, warnings etc. Its not the easiest thing to re-pack and the box won't last long in regular use. The winch works well - within its limits - but the cable is doubled via a pulley to increase the pulling power and doesn't extend very far (about 4 ft). Handy tool.
