Review: A very good 'Basic' Computer. - I've just fitted my sixth Velo 9 to one of my bikes, so now all my bikes have one fitted. This last one was to replace a Cateye wireless computer I bought because it promised easier setting up and a cleaner look, there being no wires trailing about. It was a success on both counts. Less successful was when using my front light - the computer didn't work at all as presumably the light interrupted the signal. Then it stopped reading over 20 mph, so I just went ahead and replaced it with something I know works very well indeed - the Cateye Velo 9. Yes it's basic, but if like me all you really want to know is how far places are and your odo for each bike then this fits the bill. They seem pretty accurate speed and distance wise and are a doddle to programme in, including the wheel/tyre size. The only part I'd question would be the accuracy of the calory counter, but that's no biggie. On the whole then, I like these computers a lot!
Review: No Connectivity Problems! - I have bought 2 of these for my bikes, after having been IRRITATED by mid-ride drop-outs from cheap wireless other-make units. Some reviews have criticised the nylon zip-ties used to install them, but don't come up with anything decent alternative. I have been using wired, zip-tied other-make units since the early 1980s and have NEVER found fault with the system. Think about it - if you want a wired system, you need wires! So - live with it. Learn to make a neat job of the installation - it's not rocket science. The display is nice and clear, the instructions for setting up are NOT difficult to comprehend and, in spite of at least one complaint about there being 3 buttons, not 1, there is only 1 button to be used during a ride - for example, to change the secondary display from the time of day to, say, the distance covered. Otherwise, the unit recognises stopping and starting automatically and the only other reason to press that single, big button on the front is to reset the ride data to zero before setting off on another ride. The current speed is always shown in the top, larger, part of the display. The other 2 buttons are tiny ones on the back of the unit and are only accessed when setting up or changing some settings. A ball-point pen is used to press them. The only improvement I can suggest is dumping the "calories" and "CO2" readings as they are crude and inaccurate as there is no accounting for the cyclist's weight etc. This would be better replaced with a "Scan" setting, whereby the unit cycles through the immediate ride readings such as time/distance/average speed/maximum speed. In conclusion, I thoroughly recommend the unit.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Does it have 'mph' fuctionality?**
A: Yes, it always displays your current speed at the top and when you calibrate it you can choose between km/h or mph.

**Q: Is this wireless??**
A: No it is wired. they do however make a wireless version which works just as well at a slightly higher price.

**Q: Is it water proof, splash proof?**
A: Yes it is.I ride in all weather and leave it on when I hose the bike down & never had a problem. I haven't tried submerging it, but for cycling in the rain, it's fine.

**Q: is the cable long enough to reach the rear wheel so can be used for indoor training?**
A: No , I don't think it would be long enough. Maybe the wireless option would work ..

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Good solid product
*by E***R on 9 July 2020*

I bought this having previously foolishly gone for an unknown brand that broke after one ride. On this (slightly more expensive) replacement the instructions, though visual only, were easy to follow and once installed it worked right away with no fiddling required. Seems accurate enough and the functions are easy to control. So pretty happy with it. I would have given it five stars were it not for the fact that it is secured with cable ties, which I don't like. I prefer an old fashioned nut and bold. But all in all, satisfied with the purchase.
