Now we talk about letters instead and she recognises letters in story books (etc) and links them to the pictures on this place mat. This mat is heavily used and I am afraid I have not always been quick to wipe up weetabix spills, the end result being quite a number of scratches and places where the printing has been removed. While it looks very much loved, (eg very tired), she still loves it today as much as when it was brand new, and it affords learning opportunities. Her younger sibling is now taking an interest in this place mat... Our placemats are also made in Great Britain and use child-friendly inks that are EN71 compliant - check carefully if you're thinking of buying cheap imports!Regards-Little Wigwam. **Q: what thismade of and is it robust?** A: Our placemats are made of top quality polypropylene which is a type of plastic that is 100% recyclable (in fact, unlike cardboard, it's re-recyclable!). The polypropylene is first primed, then printed with child-safe inks, and finally it is sealed with a UV-resistant sealant (child-safe as well of course!) - the print cannot either fade or "wash off", it would require scraping through the UV sealant and then the ink, neither of which will happen if the mat is wiped clean after use with a soft cloth! And unlike laminated paper mats they will not peal or come apart no matter how many times they are wiped or have drinks spilt on them :-) Our own kids still use their original mats from over 5 years ago.
