## Description

From the manufacturer Control your lights - Fibaro Dimmer 2 Control your lights and dim your lamps with the existing wall switches, but also - thanks to Z-Wave - also via remote control, smartphone or sensor-controlled automation. That's Smart Home! The compact radio module is placed in a wall box right behind the normal switch. The switch is no longer directly connected to the load but acts as input device for the FIBARO insert that is controlling the load. The switch only sends control signal to the insert which controls the load then again. The solution works with all switch design. You can use a momentary or a toggle switch. It’s recommended to use wall boxes with 65mm depth. But smaller boxes with only 45mm depth can be used also if there is enough space behind the switch. The available space depends on the size of the traditional switch, the dimensions of the wall box and the amount of additional cabling placed in this box. Fibaro Dimmer 2 - create your own lighting show Pleasant light in your bed rooms No one likes glaring light after waking up. Lighting up your room pleasant if the alarm clock rings in the morning. Light for every mood Create the suitable light for every mood and atmosphere. If you are watching an atmospheric nature documentary or a horror movie. Control your lighting via smartphone A romantic dinner needs a romantic atmosphere. You can control your lighting easyly with your smartphone.

Review: Great smart home tech which integrates well with SmartThings - Great dimmer that is easy to install and very customisable. I link mine with SmartThings and it works really smoothly (though needs a custom Device Handler). I have installed 6 and one was faulty so was a bit frustrating while working that out, but thankfully buying from desertcart they sorted me out (Fibaro support is useless). If at all possible I suggest aiming for a three wire installation since that way you should avoid needing to use the Bypass device and it will also run more efficiently. If going for a 2-wire installation and you have LEDs then you MUST use a bypass otherwise you will find that the lights never turn off completely.
Review: Generally a back-box of 35mm or deeper is a bit fiddly but fine, as long as you don't have too deep ... - I've wired 16 of these into every light circuit in my house, so a random mix of 1/2/3-way, led/non-led, extractor fan, dimmable/non, toggle/momentary switch, etc, and not had a problem with any of the options after some re-configuring of settings. For the most part I was able to wire myself, but got an electrician to help with the 2/3-way and to also replace some of the back-boxes with deeper ones. Generally a back-box of 35mm or deeper is a bit fiddly but fine, as long as you don't have too deep a switch. I used a 10mm extension collar (that matched the switch) for 1 box which was 25mm, as it wasn't worth digging out the wall for a deeper one. Very pleased with these in the setup, it opens up so many options and doesn't have any of the limitations of bulb-based tech like Hue (i.e. turning off at the switch and losing the connection). I'm using Smartthings as the hub with the excellent device handler written by codersaur from the Smartthings forum. I love the ability to double/triple click a room switch to set scenes such as turn on another connected Hue/Wemo bulb in a lamp in the same room. Also Smartthings integration with Alexa is very useful. I only had to run one Led circuit with the Bypass as the total draw was less than 50w, but the other Led circuits have enough bulbs to result in over 50w.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Does it work with Amazon Echo (Alexa)?**
A: Not directly but Samsung’s SmartThings does and fibaro works with the SmartThings hub, I have this rugged up myself, and works great!

**Q: whats the difference between this dimmer 2 from fibaro and the previous version? What depth of back box do you need for this to fit in there?**
A: Main differences: Reduction in max. load to 250 W, automatic detection of the type of light load, supports both leading and trailing edge dimming (depending on load type), 500 series chipset, monitoring of power consumption, built-in Z-Wave network range indicator LED. So much improved, but with the penalty of the load reduction. Max height is 20.3 mm. This can be fitted in a 35 mm back box, with care and practice. Sorry none of this information is on the listing, but there is not much marketplace sellers can do--Amazon has tried to "improve" the product page.

**Q: I have some lights that are controlled by two switches, will this one work? do I need two of it or one is enough?**
A: It can under the correct conditions. I just fitted one in the ceiling rose of a two way controlled light. I made the hole that the wires go through slightly bigger and slipped the 223 unit through the hole into the space above. The rose still covers the hole. Electrically the light fitting has no knowledge that there are two switches controlling it. The 223 contains two switches only S1 is needed in this case. If your case is similar then it should work fine.

**Q: What is the z save frequency?**
A: The box with this product for Uk states 868MHz (I believe the actual European specification for Z-Wave Plus is 868.42MHz.
Beware, it is different in North America, so devices are not compatible.
I use this with a Samsung SmartThing hub

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great smart home tech which integrates well with SmartThings
*by C***S on 13 April 2017*

I have installed 6 and one was faulty so was a bit frustrating while working that out, but thankfully buying from Amazon they sorted me out (Fibaro support is useless). ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Turn "dumb" lights into "smart" lights
*by P***R on 4 April 2020*

I wanted smart lighting throughout my house, but didn't want to mess around with smart bulbs which limit your choice of lighting and stop working when somebody turns the switch off. Instead, I fitted these in each lighting circuit to turn "dumb" lights into "smart" lights. The units are very compact, but difficult to squeeze inside most back boxes. In most cases, I fitted them into the hollow wall adjacent to the switch. On one circuit, I fitted it into the ceiling near to the light fitting. They are not difficult to wire up if you have experience with electrics. The terminals are small, but sufficient. These work best with permanent live and neutral supplies. If you don't have neutral to the switch, I believe you can wire the Sx terminal to the neutral terminal. In my case, I wired them up as: - L: Permanent live - N: Neutral - S1: Switch (L1) - Sx: Switch (Com) - Output: Switched live I combined these units with momentary switches, which allow me to turn the lights on/off by pressing and releasing, or dim/brighten by holding for a few seconds. Most importantly, these connect to Smartthings hub, which allows me to control the lights on the app, Alexa, IFTTT and most other services. Connecting these to Smartthings took a few seconds by pressing the switch three times in quick succession. I have created automated routines to turn lights on at sunset and off at 10pm, as well as linking lights together so my Hue lightstrips also turn on at the lightswitch. All of these routines have worked flawlessly. These aren't cheap, but they're worth the money to be able to have smart lighting throughout.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ The best dimmer you can buy... but at a price
*by J***S on 21 August 2020*

These Fibaro dimmers really are the best that you can buy if you want remote control of lights within a home automation setup. They are Z-Wave so you need a controller, but the sheer range of options and compatibility on these is amazing. Also and very importantly they work on the 2 wire arrangement that you generally find in UK light switches. There are some capabilities (like the ability to add a second switch which triggers Z-Wave events) that you don't find in many of these devices. They are expensive unfortunately, but you get what you pay for.
