Review: Logi MX Ergo Trackball Mouse - User of Trackballs since 1999. Many previous logitech corded versions still around somewhere, with a few of the competition. Currently using three M570’s. Best mice around no question. When one was damaged I saw an opportunity to try either the M575 or Mx Ergo. Bought MX Ergo and wondered why i did not try this earlier. Disregard some of the reviews, some are out of date. This is a review of mine shipped Oct 2023 to the UK. Pros: Sturdy feel and built. Has some weight to it. Has a larger area for palm which is surprisingly an improvement. Solid feel when using. Trackball is a smooth type (compared to the rougher ball that most have complained about) Mine was shipped with same ball as the on the 570 but grey in colour. Smooth to use, so no problems there at all. Can be used on 2 devices independently by switching between the usb receiver on one device and using bluetooth on another via the button on mouse Best of all, by using the Options+ flow software on two pcs you can copy and paste files and pics from one device to another. The mouse goes between one pc screen to the other (no need to switch on the mouse !). Just drag and drop between pc screens. Both pcs must be connected to the same wifi. The transfer speed is as fast as your wifi router allows. Ok for pics and files. Huge Gb files will work but go get a coffee while it transfers ! Slower tracking speed available when needed for more precise mouse movements. The track wheel is much improved and has some really smooth slow motion when scrolling down web pages and docs. Makes quick reading a web page much easier. Battery life says 4 months in manual per charge. I have not charged it at all. Used daily for the past 2 weeks. Good for any rechargeable device. Can be used it one of two positions. Flat or at a notched angle (say 20 degrees in manual) I have never had a position issue with a logi mouse so I thought this was a gimmick. It is sometimes a nice change of hand position when working for a long time. I say this is a pro. For some reason I prefer 20 degrees ?? Cons: Rechargeable battery. M570’s used one alkaline AA every few years. Cannot beat that, so not sure why they changed it. No where on the mouse to store the usb receiver ? Important to me if I am away. desertcart description says USB-C. Mine was shipped with Micro USB connector see pic. No big deal but worth noting if that was a requirement of the purchase. Two xtra buttons (left and right clicks) on schrol wheel. Cannot find any practical use for these. Too sensitive to use even for copy and paste, but all buttons can be made redundant in the settings or customised if needed. I use the slow tracking motion button on this mouse more than I thought it would. The specs say it has 3 dpi settings, the button just has two and I cannot find any setting in the software to try the third dpi setting. Overall a quality well made piece of kit. if you are a trackball person. This is the best so far.
Review: Simply put the best mouse I have ever used - This is a robust, versatile and comfortable mouse Major features for me - better build than Microsoft - comfort and versatility in use - unifying receiver - excellent battery life I've had used umpteen devices since my first pc over 20 years ago. I currently use a laptop and have 2 mice and a keyboard running faultlessly from 1 unifying receiver (M570 trackball, Performance MX mouse, and K360 keyboard). The M570 withstands everything I throw at it - the trackball is securely held in its socket and comes out with gentle coaxing when you eventually need to clean the three mini rollers that hold it in place. I have been very clumsy with this mouse and dropped it on the floor on more times than I remember (more than 20 in over 3 years of use). The mouse has hit the wooden floor with enough force for the trackball to bounce out - but I just put it back in and it is still working perfectly. I have found in general that Logitech mice have better longevity in use. Compared to the Performance MX mouse (which sits on my desk and has different functions assigned to its buttons - done easily with Logitech's software) it is a superior product for comfort and ease of use. The MX may track on glass; but it still requires a surface to operate on and much greater wrist / arm movement to use. The M570 is just easier and more comfortable. Logitech could improve the product by adding the functionality the MX has with scrolling (a button that enables free scrolling). They could also add extra thumb buttons adjacent to the trackball to increase versatility. There are two problems with the mouse : They do not make a left handed version (serious problem for lefties). You have to get used to using your thumb (water off a ducks back with practice).

## Questions & Answers

**Q: linux compatible?**
A: Yes it works find with Linux. The kernel will detect the USB transmitter and the trackball works perfectly well under Linux. I've used mine for over 12 months and never had a problem with it. (Debian GNU/Linux with the KDE desktop version's 7 and the soon to be released version 8.The left and right buttons do left and right button things, the centre scroll wheel scrolls and acts as the middle button, exactly as you would expect on any X based system. The two extra buttons also work - though I don't use them much.

**Q: Is this any better than the older version? I'm still using that and OK just wondering if this is better?**
A: Additional pluses. Having the ability to tilt the mouse and having two angled options makes it even more ergonomic. Little button to select 2 tracking speeds for the marble is a winner. The normal setting is the same as Trackman of old and the slow setting gives unrivalled precision. It also feels considerably more robust than M370.

**Q: had mine for 7 months and been brill. lately despite cleaning suffering from unusable judder. Upgraded to latest driver no help, any suggestions**
A: I solved this problem by removing the ball, cleaning the inside with sellotape, then cleaning the ball with sellotape. This removes all the grease and even though it feels tacky first use this wears off and it's like new again.

**Q: Can it be used as a wired trackball?, or is the usb cable strictly for charging the battery for wireless operation? thank you.**
A: Hi Artur. No - the usb wire is only for charging. The connection is wireless using either an included USB dongle or BlueTooth.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Fantastic Device
*by G***T on 20 July 2014*

I've had a previous version of the this - a Cordless Trackman Wheel for many years, but recently I made the mistake of putting a cheap battery in it, which leaked and killed it. I was so impressed with the long term reliability of the previous device that when I was looking for a replacement I felt compelled to go for this updated model rather than a different brand or style. I bought it from Pomegranate, with delivery to an Amazon Locker, and it arrived swiftly, brand new, as described. The M570 has lived up to my expectations completely. It's very comfortable, accurate, and feels as durable as my previous version, so I'm confident it will also last for many years. I haven't installed any additional software, just plugged in the discreet USB receiver, and let Windows do the rest. I just use it for the basic functions - moving the cursor, left and right clicking, and scrolling through documents with the wheel. This means the additional buttons (initially programmed for moving the page forward and back while web browsing) are superfluous for me at present, but maybe I'll try making use of them in the future. I've also made no attempt to re-program any buttons, as I've read is possible, maybe with additional software (not included - I assume that's something to download from Logitech). I love the freedom you get from a trackball device. I don't need to worry about what surface I'm going to use, so I can easily move my laptop to a desk, an armchair or even my bed, and not bother about an additional surface to roll a mouse around on. I think that for my purposes - mostly web browsing, document writing and programming - a trackball is ideal. If you are interested in certain games, or other uses that require faster movement around the screen, this is probably not going to suit you, but I can quickly and easily navigate around an extended desktop with no problem at all. Some general points: It comes with a battery (Duracell AA) already fitted and ready to use when you remove the plastic protection tab. It has an on/off switch, unlike my previous Trackman, and that device lasted for months on a single battery so I have high hopes that this will be even more efficient. There's also a little light that briefly flashes green when you switch it on, and I believe it will flash red when the battery is low. Finally, the USB receiver is discreet, as I mentioned before, with less than a centimetre protruding from the socket. You can keep it plugged in and still carry the laptop around with you quite easily, but if you want to remove it for any reason, there is a little slot for it in the battery compartment so that you can avoid the risk of misplacing it. I've been using the M570 for a couple of weeks now and I haven't had a single negative experience. I recommend it wholeheartedly.
