When you power on the thermometer, set the doneness level and meat type so you know exactly when your steak, chicken or leg of lamb is ready to pull off the grill. The thermometer features seven meat types to include beef, veal, lamb, pork, poultry, turkey, burger and a ¥user set.' When choosing beef, veal or lamb, there are three doneness levels to choose from, including medium-rare, medium and well-done. When using USER mode, you set the desired temperature. The thermometer has an audible alert when the meat has reached the proper doneness level. The backlit LCD screen is easy-to-read and shows the current and target temperature readouts. The current temperature readout is fast and accurate; within 5 seconds, you'll know how hot, or cold, your food is. The stainless steel probe adjusts 180 degrees for multiple measuring positions. The pre-programmed meats and doneness temperatures make it easy to use; the screen shows the meat selected, the current temp of the meat, the target temp of the meat. There is an alarm that sounds when the meat has reached the target temp. However, I have found that when a steak reaches 10 degrees before the target temperature, you should stop cooking it as it will still cook after it is removed from the grill. If you don't, the meat will go past the target temperature and doneness.
