Review: Surprisingly, the BEST flashlights I've used. - These little flashlights are the best! I've purchased them before for basic use - for grandkids to play with in their "blanket forts", to have around the house in case the lights go out, etc. We were camping a couple of weeks ago and I'd neglected to put fresh batteries in my big maglight. Fortunately, I had one of these little GearLights in my car and it saved the day (well, the night). These came in a two-pack, they shine more brightly than you'd expect; you can easily adjust the focus of the light from covering a broader area to a more concentrated focus. These GearLights are compact and sturdy, easy to hold / grip on to, even with damp hands (the barrel of the flashlight is not slick or too smooth to grip at a variety of angles). The button is easy to locate and use by tough / without looking for it, so easy to use and super handy! The wrist strap even makes it easy to bring along when one's hands are full. If you're hiking, the size and weight of these is preferable to say, a big Maglight, and I can't get over the value for the price. I'd pay more for them if I had to - they're that good. These are our go-to now; I just ordered a couple more for the camp kit. I know I sound like a commercial (I am really a real person, promise) but I was genuinely surprised and delighted with how great these are the first time I got them.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: How many lumens is the light rated?**
A: The LED is rated for a maximum output of 1040 lumens.  However, in actual use, the output ranges from 300 to 800 lumens depending on the battery type (lithium, NiMH, or alkaline), battery strength, operating temperature and other factors.  Furthermore, the S1000 lens wide zooming ability, from a large area to a focused square beam, can cause the final output to vary significantly.

**Q: Is it better over the long term to use aaa lithium or aaa alkaline batteries?**
A: Neither. What these flashlights are made for, is a SINGLE 18650 lithium (rechargeable) battery. That's why they include the clear plastic tube, to insert the 18650 into. If you WERE to use AAA's, then RECHARGEABLE AAA's (known as NiMH) at 1.2 volts each, would be recommended. When buying 18650's, they need to be high quality, or you're going to get ripped off. Cheap 18650's have low capacity, and no protection circuit. A good indicator of quality is usually when you can get 2 for $25. **Q: what manufacture and model bulb is in this flashlight?**
A: since MIDirect didn't respond to the question i'm going to assume it's just a generic LED bulb ...if it was a Cree T-6 LED i'm sure they would have advertised it as such since the Cree LED is a respected leader in bulbs...but since MIDirect just states it has an LED bulb you can "assume" it is of generic quality. I wish MIDirect would put their 2 cents in on this !

**Q: Does the S1000 take button top or flat top 18650's**
A: It accepts both.

Excellent value! These are small, but very bright flashlights with zoomable beams. These aren't cheap plastic flashlights. They are high quality, water resistant, aluminum lights. Small but powerful, and each comes with a case. I couldn't be happier with these Gearlight LED flashlights!

Surprisingly these flashlights are one of the best that I’ve ever had. They are small and compact but very bright. Great for travel or home. I purchased these several times for myself and family members. I keep one in my nightstand, desk, cars, etc. You can easily fit it into your pocket if you are working on some project or job. I use it when walking my dog at night. Very sturdy and well made. They come with a carrying case too. I highly recommend.
