## Questions & Answers

**Q: If used on decking (Ipe) - does this product peel over time, and need to be stripped and reapplied?**
A: Waterlox Marine Sealer TB-3809 is the sealer coat(s) for Waterlox Marine Finishes.
Waterlox does not recommend their finishes for fully exposed decks. 

That being said, Waterlox Tung Oil Finishes are a great choice for Ipe and other dense oily South American species.  Waterlox Marine Sealer would be used first, then top coated with Waterlox Marine Finish.

Waterlox should not be applied over outdoor pressure-treated lumber or on horizontal working surfaces, such as open air decks. We suggest using a product designed specifically for this application

However, if the wood will be exposed only to partial UV light (e.g. a covered porch, year-round shade,  or a North facing deck), we would consider 1-2 coats of Waterlox Marine Sealer (depending on the porosity of the wood), followed by 2 coats of Original Marine Satin Finish TB-6032. 

Waterlox Marine Finishes are made from Tung oil and a special resin that provides a barrier that stands up to marine and exterior exposure and reflects the UV instead of absorbing it. Waterlox Satin Marine Finish also contains micro-fine pigments to screen UV light in addition to UV light absorbers.

When the gloss begins to fade, this is the key to knowing that the UV rays are beginning to affect the finish and that it’s time to re-coat. You do not need to sand down to bare wood to refinish the surface; simply clean the surface and apply another coat of Marine Finish.

**Q: Does this sealer darken the wood?**
A: Yes, as any product would but it is not significantly darker than the wood is when water is on it.  There is no color component.

**Q: Can you put this over epoxy**
A: I am not sure that would work.  It is a form of Tung Oil and I have only used it to apply into porous wood grain.  My thinking it would just drip right off of a glossy surface like epoxy resin.

**Q: Can you this on a butcher block for kitchen counter?**
A: I wouldn't use it for a kitchen counter. It is pretty stinky. I have a butcher block counter and I mix mineral oil and bees wax in the microwave and melt it in with a hairdryer.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ AMAZING WOOD PROTECTION

This sealer is simply fantastic for any wood project. We used this on a restoration project of a 1903 wood porch. The sealer brings out the color and texture of the wood like magic! This can go on any natural wood flooring (after sanding). They use this sealer in the White House. The sealer alone will work if no UV protection is needed (it is a little bit more durable than the finish). If you need UV protection, then the Waterlox Marine Finish should go on top. I can not recommend this product highly enough. We also used it on some brick in the basement, brought out the red of the brick like magic also. A++++++
