The only complaint is the speakers themselves lack bass without the sub, the sub is all of the bass so without it there just isn't any so if your in a apartment your neighbors may hear it, it's not ridiculously loud bass though. It can be turn up and down on the fly with the remote but it will turn all the speakers bass down as well removing all bass entirely. The sub doesn't have to be connected also it's it's own wireless unit.
