Review: Great Decoder, Bad QC - These decoders works great! They have really nice features and are super easy to use. I appreciate the LCD screen for addressing and changing the settings of the decoder. In addition, having a multitude of different testing modes built in is a huge plus. It’s great having 8bit and 16bit options as well as 2ch, 3ch and 4ch modes to boot. They don’t flicker, have 3pin dmx (which almost no decoders have) and when you realize you’re only paying about $10 per channel, you can’t go wrong really. Now.. the not so great part. The QC on this item is not so great. Out of the last 20 or so of these I’ve bought about 5-6 have been faulty. Some, would just stop working after a few hours of use, others refused to pass DMX, and some would just flat out not work. This can be fairly frustrating when your project deadline is right around the corner. But, you get what you pay for. When they work... they’re incredible. When you get a bad one.... well, it’s hard not to chuck it arose the room while swearing. So, here’s the bottom line... In my honest professional opinion these are great. They’re realitively cheap so buy extra knowing that a few in your batch are bound to be duds. Then, just send em back to desertcart and get a refund. All in all, I’ll keep buying these; the price for what you get is just too good.
Review: Initially defective? But great exchange experience. - I love what this product does, BUT.... I ordered a couple weeks ago, hooked it up to a high wattage power supply, my DMX signal, and 4 various RGBW LED strips. Whenever the Decoders LCD display was lit up, it would send all kinds of random signals to the LED strips, whether DMX was connected or not. This happened regardless if I properly terminated the DMX cable, or not. The first unit would NOT recognize my DMX signal and thanks to desertcarts speedy exchange process, I has another in my hands a day later. Meh... The replacement has the same issue whenever the LCD display is on, but once it turns off after 30 seconds, the unit performs flawlessly with my DMX. So yeah.... is it still defective? I think so? But then it works as well.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Can i connect 1 rgbw strip to each output with a different address, to control them individually? also what power supply would i need for 8 strips?**
A: When the unit is set to DMX 8 bit, each DMX address controls one color/channel on the device. So if you set the start address of this device to 1, then DMX address 1 = Red, DMX address 2 = Green, DMX address 3 = Blue, DMX address 4 = White. If you set the controller to DMX 16 bit then DMX address 1 and 2 = Red, DMX address 3 and 4 = Green, etc. There are 8 outputs of 5 wires each on the controller. RGBW(V+). 2 outputs are powered by one connection to your power supply(DC1+,DC1- in the picture) with a max of 24 Amps for those 2 outputs from that one input (DC1). You will need to determine the max power consumption of the light you are putting on the 2 outputs to ensure they will not go over the max amp of 24 amps. There are 4 DC inputs on the controller each with a max of 24Amps. Your power supply can be more than 24 amps and it can split between more than one DC input. For example you can have a power supply of 100 amps split across these 4 inputs to power the lights. 4x24=96amps. Just make sure you do not put a device on the outputs that consume more than max 24 amps.

**Q: Can someone explain the dim/ct/rgb/rbgw (1-4ch) modes? does this use fewer dmx channels to control the banks of four outputs or something?**
A: 1. DIM (one channel) / CT (two channel) / RGB (three channel) / RGBW (four channel) control modes.
2. Each Channel independently.

**Q: How do you assign a different dmx addresses for each channel?**
A: There are 3 buttons on the decoder: button 1 , button 2, button 3 . The three-digit display indicates the current DMX address when connected to a power supply. The decimal point of last digit will flash regularly when receives DMX512 signal normally. The three-digit display turns off without operation for 30 seconds, press any key to turn it on.

DMX address setup

Long press button 1 for two seconds to enter DMX512 address setup, the digital-display flashes, press button 1 to set the hundreds digit (0-5 are valid values), press button 2 to set the tens digit (0-9 are valid values), press button 3 to set the units digit (0-9 are valid values). DMX512 address are 1-512, when the DMX address is above 512, testing mode is enabled

Long press button 1 for two seconds to exit DMX512 address setup, it also can be exited automatically without operation for 10 seconds.

**Q: What power supply is needed to run this?**
A: It depends on the current draw of the LEDs you're using. This can support 12V or 24V LEDs, and it can support up to 96A total with four power channels driving two LED channels apiece.

The MAXIMUM power supply it can handle is a 24V 24A per power channel, so a total of four of those per controller. So why not just get those? Well, they're expensive - they're large (larger than the controller) - and they draw a hella lot of power, way more than a 120V/15A circuit could provide.

What we're using at my theater is "5050" RGBW 12V LED light strips, which draw 5A of current per 5m (16.4 ft) length. We typically run no more than 5m per LED channel, so we're not going to exceed 10A per power channel. So, we've chosen 12V 10A power supplies, four per controller and that does just fine for us. If you're using less lighting, you can get by with smaller power supplies. If you're using more, you'll need bigger.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ What brand is this?
*by J***I on June 22, 2025*

I'm generally pretty never about using electronic in a professional setting that don't have a brand name. These however work great. We've been using them with our stage designs for several years now. Couldn't be more pleased.
