It moves up and down easily and stays at the height you put it. I actually use it on the ground instead of on a table. I decided on this instead of using the tables where the legs just fold under (I suppose those would work too; but too small). I also have one of the laptop stands where there are legs on both sides and you adjust them to make a "Z." Was always to hard to adjust; not sturdy, and too small a work surface.This desk works perfectly for me. I lay it flat and put it under the coffee table in the family room when I'm not using it. It does have slip guards on the bottom so sliding it on carpet is a little hard. So, I put it on a piece of cardboard and it's fine.I like that when I sit on the ground I can put it at the level I need. I also sometimes sit on a small stool and I can put the table at max height to meet my needs.I like the table size. Fits both my work and personal laptops on it. And I can put a monitor if I want to use just one laptop with an extra screen.It is a bit heavy at around 40lbs. But, only a problem if you're carrying it around alot. Sliding it under and out from under the coffee table is not any issue.Very happy with the purchase. There are other desk stands that are almost twice the price, but I don't think it would provide much more utility; even with the 2 levels for monitor and keyboard. That would seem to lock you into how you'd use it. Fits my 17" laptop and (the base of) my 24" external monitor, with room left over for my mouse pad and a small notebook.Pros:* Comes fully assembled -- no tools needed and no time lost putting it together* Very sturdy construction -- when lowered, it's as solid as my desk; when raised, it doesn't shake when typing or writing* Great craftsmanship -- the metal base, laminated wood top, and metal scaffolding in between the two are all professionally painted with very-slightly-rounded corners (soft to the touch and won't snag or scratch anything that rubs against them). I couldn't imagine a product costing 10 times as much being any better constructed.* Raises easily from low to high and anywhere in between. No "clicks" -- very smooth height adjustments.* Even with the laptop and monitor on top, very little effort needed to raise and lowerCon:* The only potential con is that when fully lowered, it adds about 2.5" to the height of your desk, which is the lowest I saw when researching this desk and its competitors. It's very sturdy with room for 2 24" monitors side by side along with a keyboard and mouse side by side. It stays without moving on the top of your desk fairly well.The one complaint I have is that it is about 2 1/2" thick when not extended.
