    Better then Ekobrew and Solofill

*by L***L on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on November 16, 2013*

I've used both the Solofill and Ekobrew. Each of those had disadvantages, but this "Brew and Save" K-Cup seems to solve the problems and dislikes I had of the Solofill and Ekobrew. The "Brew and Save" has a flat bottom, holds more coffee for a stronger cup, and doesn't leak/spew from the top like the Ekobrew did on me with certain types of coffee. And just like the Solofill and Ekobrew, you don't have to remove or change the K-Cup holder in the machine. This is a good way to help the environment, save money (especially since k-cup prices have gone up), and use your own coffee (like buying it at Costco). It's certainly not as convenient as using actual k-cups, but it's not as much trouble and waste as brewing a regular cup of coffee the old fashioned way.Tip #1: We weren't happy when we ground our own beans with a cheap blade grinder. We bought a

and it made a significant difference because you can control the grind well & it's consistent. You may have to "play" with the grind to get one that will work well, and it could vary depending on the coffee bean.Tip #2: Make sure you do not overfill past the fill line... too much coffee in there will cause problems with proper brewing & water disbursement through all the coffee grinds.Tip #3: Some pre-ground coffees will just not work as the water cannot flow through it properly.Tip #4: To dump the coffee after use, keep it closed, turn it upside down, and tap it on the counter a few times, then open the lid over the trash and the coffee should fall out (might need some side taps)... then just rinse the K-Cup.NOTE: You have to put this in the right way so that it falls properly into place or it won't close... and NEVER force the top of the machine to close.5 stars for being the best I've used so far.

Not perfect, but will save you money

Ok so far. Arrived quickly. I read reviews prior to purchasing, so I didn't feel like there were any surprises. I was a bit nervous about my first brew, but was careful to follow the instructions of not overfilling. I used pre ground coffee (not sure what else to call it - it was already ground in the bag when I purchased it - I didn't grind it). I had seen comments about being careful with the grind, so I wasn't sure what to expect. It worked fine although the coffee seemed to come out more slowly than with a regular k-cup. The flavor was better than with the regular k-cups. I have the keurig brand filter that you can use your own coffee, but don't use it much because it is a pain. This was a nice alternative. Easy to do, quick clean up. I feel like the keurig brand one works a bit better, but this is more convenient (and much cheaper). It's a trade off, I guess. I will probably rotate things around and still use some regular k-cups, although maybe not quite as much.

Great...gotta get the grind right, don't overfill!

These work great and save major $$ on coffee!! Here is what I found out though...1. You need to get the right grind. I experimented with lighter roast to darker roasts, grinding with machine at store buying bulk beans. There were two setting for drip coffee machines, I finally found the larger of the two grinds works best (not sure how to describe that better? two clicks up from the espresso setting?). The smaller the grind the more these clog, espresso grind is useless, you end up with two ounces of coffee as it clogs immediately.2. Don't overfill them past the fill line or they can also clog.3. If using canned coffee like Folgers or the like, you can pack the coffee in a bit and get a decent cup.4. 6 oz. cups seem to be best, 8 oz. are ok but a little weak.5. make sure there are no grounds on the rim when you close them or they can leak.I was given the My K Cups with the Keurig as a present...These are vastly superior to those. If you have multiple morning coffee drinkers you will end up using them all so buying four is a good idea. These are actually the ECOBrew cups as the paperwork that comes with them only say ECOBrew, not sure what the difference is other than marketing?Save money and spare the earth the plastic, these work perfectly!
