He's on undercover duty at Fort Hadley, Georgia working on stopping the sale of weapons by the post supply sergeant. He gets called in to investigate another case though - the high profile murder of the Commanding General's daughter.Also called in on the case is CID investigator Cynthia Sunhill, a rape specialist and also a woman that Paul had a prior tempestuous relationship with. Both were nearby when the murder occurred.I had read this book years ago. I am a Nelson DeMille fan and this book is a favorite of mine. I enjoyed it this time around just as much as the first time.DeMille has a talent for creating intelligent but smart alecky protagonists and Brenner definitely fills that role. He and Sunhill work nonstop to find the killer of this young troubled woman but have great, back-and-forth verbal battles while following up all clues.DeMille's prior military service definitely shows in this story, making the military day to day functions and jargon very believable.Twisty, lurid storyline; fun, snarky characters - another winner from DeMille. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Even Better Than The Movie! *by P***S on Reviewed in the United States on February 18, 2018* I saw the movie version of the book years ago and enjoyed it. Rewatching the movie version again fairly recently inspired me to get a copy of the book. As good as the movie was, the book is much, much better. Mr. DeMille writes a very detailed orientated book. As they say "the devil is in the details." If you enjoy a well written, well researched story I think you will like this book too. It is a very good read and hard to put down. I've read it twice now, and agree that John Travolta was a perfect selection for the part of the DSI agent in the movie. It's a great book. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Excellent *by M***E on Reviewed in the United States on December 7, 2019* This is one that you can't stop reading. It is about the greatest of all betrayals. It is also about anger and resentment and repeated acts of vengeance in addition to sorrow. All of this wrapped in a military base that is full of anger and acts unbecoming to an officer involving darn near every officer on the base. Warren officer Brenner has a smart mouth to match his smart mind and he finds he will be working with Warrent officer Cynthia Sunhill who he just happened to have a fling with in Brussels a year or so previously that didn't end very happily.
