Good value
I've had this pump for a little while now and have mostly used it to stabilize a great diversity of wood inside of a vacuum chamber. My comments below are based on my personal experience with my sample of one, and a solid understanding of the stabilization process, but I hope that it will help others in their own endeavors... To start, I have owned it over 2 summers now and have never had much trouble with it. It is simple and trust worthy. Having said this, I should also remind you that it a single stage pump which by definition means that it runs at 100% operational capacity when the motor is running. Energy Efficiency - I would rate it middle of the road. Single stage motors are usually not as efficient as two stage motors. Noise - This pump is not quiet. If you want quieter pumps, then you will have to pay considerably more for a two-stage vacuum pump. Reliability - This pumps generally runs 24x7 for several days. I have had great luck with it so far. Suction - This a basic pump at 3.5 CFM. All this means it that it will take a bit longer for your vacuum chamber to be void of its atmospheric gases. It does however create more than enough vacuum for my 3 gallon chamber without doubt. Thermal - It runs a bit hotter than I expected or would like, however, as long as it has just the right amount of oil, it keeps on going. Overall, this is a medium duty pump, but a good value for the price paid. It can last a long time and serve you well if you treat it right. For best results: 1) Make sure to follow the manufacturer's operational guides (Particularly regarding oil levels). 2) NEVER restart vacuum pumps if they are connected to a chamber already under full vacuum. The exception being if your pump has the ability to maintain pressure on the chamber, but the motor can start under zero vacuum. I hope this helps!

Efficient and quiet pump
Bought this pump to degas SORTA-Clear 40 silicone in a 1.2 qt vacuum chamber. Quickly draws down to 29 inches of Hg. The spec says it's SAE 1/4 but I found it to be 7/16 X 20 tpi. This was useful to me because SORTA-Clear 40 is an extremely viscous silicone and I use a syringe to inject it into a mold. I made a fitting that fits snugly into the syringe and connects to the vacuum hose from the pump to suck the silicone out of the mixing pot into the syringe. Highly recommend this pump.

My new vacuum pump
Hey my pump worked out fine. I only used it a couple times. It's not not an everyday need for me so I can't really say a whole lot, but I do like it

A grreat and inexpensive pump
The pump arrived on time and in good condition. The oil flask was in tact and still full of oil. I now have about 5 hours of use and the pump is working fine and using very little oil. This one is a winner.

It works well.
I got this with a pyrex bowl vacuum chamber, and it works great. I had some trouble getting the tubes hooked up, had to used some tools for grip, but that's good, they seal very well. I've used it a dozen times or more without incident. I would advise anyone to be careful putting the oil in, it's easy to overfill, the oil is very thin. - Thank you to the manufacturer.

Dead, dead, dead. Three in a row.
I'm giving up after three of these - first one never pulled a vacuum (and was COVERED in oil), second one worked a couple times then also stopped, and the third was again useless on arrival. All three seemed to leak around the oil fill cap.

Used it 30 or 40 times with no issues
Couldn't be more pleased with my purchase. Looked around for degassing Chambers and decided to spend the extra little bit of money on this unit. As you can see it gets used on a regular basis for degassing my casting molds for silver jewelry. Easy set up. Easy operation. quality product.

Worked well once we cleared out some plastic bits.
First, you have to add vacuum pump oil, which is included. Not a big deal, but you can't just turn it on when you get it. Once I did turn it on, though, I heard a grindy noise so I turned it off. It turns out there were a bunch of plastic pieces caught in the back where there is a spinning fan. I have no idea where the pieces might have come from, but there were numerous pieces that all looked the same, so I'm pretty sure it had something to do with the manufacturing process. It may also have had something to do with rough handling by shippers -- the name-plate on the side of the motor had also come off,. I picked out all the plastic pieces and turned it on again, and it worked great. Our vacuum chamber gauge immediately started moving and it took just a minute or two to reach the maximum vacuum. We were using this for a science experiment and it perfectly suited our needs.

Smoke and stops working
Didn't even get to try it on a single project. Followed the instructions to the letter, as I read the negative reviews here, and watched some videos as well. Oil was added to the proper levels and all precautions taken. Immediately, smoke billows out, and it's stopped working. Submitted return request and waiting their response. Obviously not impressed and would not recommend.
