If you are interested in breeding and showing it's a good book with a lot of details and pictures. I was also quite disappointed to read in the training section the recommendation to actually scold a puppy for an accident in the house. "If the puppy has an accident in the house, it should be sufficient to scold him with your voice. Lower your tone of voice, saying, "Naughty puppy, bad dog" and actually scowl at the puppy" Are you kidding me? If the puppy has an accident in the house it is your fault and if it happens while you are not around again, your fault and you don't scold for that ever. It was at that point that I'd had enough, I had hoped that because it wasn't written by breeders it would be a great book on the breed. It's more a great book for people that want to be breeders or show. Review: Excellent book on Saints - I have read a few books on Saints and on various breeds. This book is outstanding for several reasons. The photos and art add a lot to the book, and are blended well with the information. The book is balanced and written well. This book is the best breed-specific book I've seen in terms of breed-standard. It provides the the complete standards divided up by USA, UK, and FCI. It also chronicles the heroic history and evolution of the Saint Bernard, and of course the legendary "Barry" is discussed. FYI this is not a training manual, but does include some helpful commands.
