A: I would return the item as it is to have 2 latches

**Q: If removing the tray, is it just empty space inside to put larger things?**
A: Yes. Just empty space no dividers

**Q: With two this size, will they lock together and not fall off while going around corners?**
A: They do lock together but, they the footprint is small so they fall over a lot going around corners. You might avoid this if the bottom one was very heavy when compared to the top one.

If you're already in the Craftsman VERSASTACK ecosystem, this Deep Tool Box is the beefy storage component you've been missing. It’s exactly what you need when a standard shallow toolbox just won't cut it. Built for Bulk This thing is deep. Like, really deep. It easily handles bulkier items that usually cause a storage headache, such as my cordless drill and impact driver (with batteries attached!), or large circular saw blades and extension cords. The 17-inch width keeps it manageable, but the depth is where it shines, eliminating that frustrating "cram and slam" routine. The Stacking Advantage As expected from VERSASTACK, the locking mechanism is solid. It snaps securely onto the rolling base, the regular toolbox, or the small parts organizer. This is fantastic for lugging everything from the garage to the worksite in one neat stack. When you need just the deep box, the large top handle is comfortable and reliable.
