Thankfully I was able to return it for another one pretty easily, however the second table had a small amount of cosmetic damage where it counts - a 2 inch scratch in the paint on the top of the centerpiece of the table. I decided it wasn't worth returning a third time and decided to assemble it anyway.Assembling this took ages compared to other build-it-yourself furniture pieces I've worked on, however that was because it took real muscle (for a smaller person such as myself) to drive in the screws - the wood is particle board but it's high density and very strong, and the whole thing feels very sturdy once assembled. The instructions were a little less straightforward than a typical IKEA piece, but I was able to figure it out and assemble it by myself, with an electric drill to assist.I have to say, I'm very pleased with it! It's beautiful, sturdy, very dense particle board that feels like it will last a long time. All 4 chairs fit neatly inside the table when not in use. I agree with other reviewers that the chairs aren't very comfortable, especially the backs, so if I'm sitting in the for any length of time I put pillows on the back and bottom of my chair. Also note that the chairs are only weighted to 250 pounds, so if you have larger folks in mind these chairs won't work for you.IKEA also offers a drop leaf table for the same price, but it doesn't include the 4 chairs.
