But when it comes to large through-hole IC's, PLCC surface mount, and especially TQFP surface mount, even the experts need some help now and again.I needed to remove a PLCC 68 part from a board with a bunch of tiny traces. I was very concerned about ruining the board running my soldering iron back and forth over the lead until the part came up. The solder joints seemed to solidify almost instantly after the iron tip passed each pin. I was concerned about the heat required to keep the joints wet and what that might do to the traces and pads if I waited too long or pushed too hard.I watched some ChipQuick videos on YouTube and you know how whatever it is you want to do always looks so easy when somebody else does it on those helpful TV commercials? Yeah, that's what I was thinking. No way this works that easy without a lot of practice.But for 14 dollars paid to Amazon in one easy installment, I too became a master of the desoldering arts. I followed the flux application directions carefully. Then with held breath and shaky hands I started applying the special solder as instructed. One side. Then the other, now the other two, now around...I jumped when the part unexpectedly came off the pads and I smeared it about an inch across the board. Trying not to burn myself I pulled the part off using my fingers with the solder still wet and began wiping the little silver spheres left behind. Everything came out almost perfectly clean. All I did was soak up any remaining solder with a wick and then clean off the flux. The ChipQuick solder stayed wet long enough to make removing the IC ludicrously easy. Freaked me out a little. I was not expecting that.The ChipQuick product worked amazingly well for me and is the first product I go to when I need to remove an IC. At 14 dollars it might not be cost effective for salvaging a lot of parts, but for repair work ChipQuick is sweet.It's awesome....
