Review: Great resource - Highly recommend Review: Amazing information and direction - I really like the author's writing style and honesty. It makes me feel I can grasp the concepts and achieve what I am looking for as I read the book. The information and direction seems genuine and sounds about like what we experience! Very good book and really points out things I would have only figured out through trial and error!

High School stage managers must read this book!
As a band director that will be managing the Stage Crew for our brand new high school auditorium, I have started reading a lot of tech books on the subject. This book is by far, the best I've read up until now. First, if you work with kids you will be nodding your head all the way through book as the author very accurately (and humorously) describes situations we encounter with teens (or other teachers, or administrators, or architects, etc. etc. etc.). This is not an academic that is describing situations the plebes will encounter in their future career - this is a guy that's in the trenches every single day and knows that we have to be able to do things efficiently, effectively, safely, and our "employees" are humans that have be managed very differently than adults. Second, if you have lived in this world for awhile but haven't actually been on the non-performing side of the headset, this book will give you the confidence to take the plunge. You may have heard all of the terminology and have a layman's familiarity with the equipment, but the author explains in a clear step-by-step manner exactly what equipment you may encounter and how to maintain and operate it. Most importantly, he assumes you will be walking into a complete mess and tells you how to organize for long term operation and diagnose problems. Admittedly, I skipped all set building chapters because they do not apply to me. But the Lighting, Audio, and Rigging chapters were excellent. I'm still a little nervous about the rigging, but I'm pretty confident I won't kill anyone with the lights or audio.

Good overview
Book provides a good overview and introduction to theater elements. It wasn't quite what I was looking for in my case, but a good resource none-the-less that I will keep and reference either way.
