Once he opened it, we put the batteries in and the trigger to spin the motor worked fine. As soon as either one of us held the trigger to shoot the balls, the blaster bogged down and acted like it was running out of juice. The first ball went okay and then the rest were barely falling out of the end of the barrel. After some reading online (Reddit) it was discovered that any battery besides the Nerf rechargeable battery pack or Duracell batteries were not providing the power the toy needed for whatever reason.
