You don't need a particularly steady hand. Every now and then it will focus on a tree behind or something like a bunker in front of the flag but with a bit of common sense it is easy to realise when this has happened and have another go. It doesn't take long to get a reading. I think it's worth the money compared to the satellite watch I used before. Comes into its own on large greens or days when the temporary green is in play.
