Produced the smell but did not melt. I left it on for extended times, with my hand on the detection pad (so it would not go into power savings mode.)Good idea but not implemented well at this time. I tried it numerous times, and instead of heating the solder hot enough to allow it to wick/penetrate, it wound up beading on top of the joint and producing a cold solder point. Very unreliable, and failed to fulfill my needs.
