I have had the fridge for 9 months and I have not had to do it yet. To verify the defrost procedure, download the usage pdf if it is still available and it should explain it better. My previous 50 year old fridge was manual. Manual meant every 12months putting in a pot filled with boiling water in the freezer and let it melt all the ice by convection; that took about 6 hours. For an apartment size residence, this is absolutely perfectly designed freezer. This product was the best thing I ever bought in my life and is an absolute total steal - if the price is still the same. **Q: Do you haul off the old refrigerator?** A: The old refrigerator has to be removed from the residence, unless you hire someone to specifically do that. **Q: Does this ship from the US?** A: I think it is made in Turkey. I think it was shipped from the U.S., or maybe Canada. I only remember it taking 2 or 3 days to arrive. Mine arrived 3 days earlier than I expected. It arrives super fast. **Q: What is the temperature range for the fridge and freezer areas?** A: The temperature range for the fridge and freezer are "normal" temperature ranges. i bought some $5 temperature gauges on Amazon. The one in my freezer shows 10degrees Fahrenheit and 40 degrees F in the fridge. At 90lbs, it is doable for a strong person working alone, but a second person would be great. The refrigerator has 5 or 6 slots for shelves in the fridge and 3 shelves so you can move the shelves around to accommodate different height items. If a side of the fridge it too close to the stove, then the fridge will have to be protected from grease that will dirty the side of the fridge. No instructions to reverse the door hinge - but that's easy to do. If you reverse the doors, then you need a drill, drill bits, torx bit, and phillips screwdriver.
