What weight are these rated for?

The leg and bracket would support almost any weight, if it is a really heavy weight you might have to get longer screws.

where does the threaded insert must be installed? in the bottom of the furniture or in the wooden leg?

The metal plates get screwed to the table bottom. The insert with the external threads get screwed into the top of each wooden leg and then the threaded stud gets screwed into the insert so the stud sticks out from each leg. Then each leg gets screwed into the plates.

Is there a leg height limit for these brackets?

I believe there is but I don't know the actual specifications. I would say no more than 10" if it has to hold up any actual weight.

I think it is 5/16”. I bought the legs on Amazon also, and they were 5/16”.
