The longer connector cable puts less strain on the plug and USB port. I use a connected mouse and keyboard as well since typing all day on the laptop keyboard is not possible now that it is elevated. This is my work computer so it gets a workout all day. Have had no problems with connectivity since installation. Very cheap plastic that was a little dirty on one side with some kind of gray smudge. Looks like it was returned before. The lights went out also. Buy a good brand name when getting electronics...so many items seem like a good deal, but you get what you pay for.
