The larger one is used for the first fold and in front of that, closer to the sewing machine, the smaller one is used to make the 2nd fold. It really increases the speed with which you can make your "ball of rope" in the rugmaking process. I really like the quality of this set; they fit and snap together and apart perfectly. This set of fabric tube makers really does work so much better to roll the 2.5 fabric strips and batting together to make a jelly roll rug. Be sure to watch a video on how to use these and it makes it very easy to understand using both of these one behind the other.
